The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) and its “Water Missions Area needs the ability to select and implement an appropriate Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for numerous labs around the US. As part of this implementation process, an evaluation of the user workflows, data management policies, and business needs are necessary to ensure the best product is implemented. The initial implementation will focus on 4 labs within the Laboratory and Analytical Services Division and then be expanded to other labs.

The LIMS implementation must minimize customizations to the COTS LIMS product and allow for data sharing to common LIMS needs like sample planning, sample status, sample login, data capture, and financial reporting. Those common needs are expected to be government built with service oriented connects to LIMS and other WMA products. The LIMS product must be capable of handling up to 50,000 sample bottles and over 450,000 analysis per year.
Proposing a 10-year contract with task orders allowing selection/implementation of best LIMS solutions and the customization efforts necessary to implement the LIMS into the Enterprise Water Mission Area.”
