TItle: Command and Control the Life Science R&D Lab
Subtitle: Accelerate the Path From Idea to Data with Push-Button Control of Your On-Site Lab Alongside Strateos Remote Cloud Labs
The industry needs laboratories redesigned as smart data centers and arguably the most significant blockade in the early stages of R&D is the inefficiency and inconsistency of workflows manually performed in traditional laboratories. The lack of integration between hardware and software can needlessly hamper not only the pace of the R&D process but the reliability of data.
The ability to streamline laboratory instruments and devices through automation in which hardware and software work seamlessly together, liberates scientists to collaborate with faster and more reproducible results. Additionally, access to smarter labs via a web-interface enables scientists to design, control, and collaborate on scientific workflows and analyze data anywhere in the world.
Strateos is a pioneer in the development of remote access laboratories and lab control software for life science research. In this webinar we'll discuss the challenges in current R&D lab operations, and how a single unified cloud-based software platform can overcome current bottlenecks through increased efficiency of automating private research laboratories alongside access to Strateos remote cloud labs where scientists can access a fleet of automation remotely, to generate small molecule, biologics and synthetic biology datasets.
In this webinar you will learn:

"Characterizing petroleum as it is found in the environment as Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) can take on a variety of meanings depending on the method used and how the TPH result is derived. Petroleum hydrocarbons comprise a vast array of chemical constituents and encompass several compounds classes, volatility ranges, and risk levels; many of which require specific detection and quantification techniques. Matching that complexity is the numerous ways in which TPH might be expressed, carrying designations such as: GRO, DRO, EPH, HEM, EPH, and/or VPH.
With a wide variety of analytical options available, covering the numerous classifications, it falls to the end user to determine which flavor is right for their particular project and which analytical solution will work best.
In this presentation we attempt to shift through the array of acronyms, methodologies, and TPH categories to provide the end users with a clearer definition of what TPH is, how it is defined, how it is measured and quantified, and provide insight into the complexities of characterizing petroleum releases as they relate to the environmental sample analysis."
"Downward reimbursement pressure and a need for cash is leading to the sale of hospital outreach programs. This is a short-term solution that provides the health system with an infusion of cash but takes away the long-term benefits and revenue potential that comes from investing in the laboratory. "Scientists are the life-blood of new product development and innovation. But in the hope of uncovering key learnings, they often spend much of their time pulling together data to conduct analysis, limiting their ability to make progress in other areas.
Uncountable makes software that enables today’s R&D leaders to implement tools that make this learning process faster, easier and more efficient. By using better quality data tools that save money and enable larger amounts of information to be processed, scientists can play to their strengths, automate time-consuming tasks and focus instead on development. The result is an improved workflow, allowing more flexible knowledge management.
This one hour webinar will focus on the benefits of implementing a true data infrastructure and the challenges that organisations often face throughout this constantly evolving journey. Will Tashman will compare traditional data collection approaches – using lab notebooks, LIMS systems and more – with new ways of maintaining structured data sets. There will also be a brief demonstration of the Uncountable system."
"The recent publication by the University of Washington (UW) in the scientific journal Science was a major breakthrough in understanding the challenges wild-run salmon face. Every Spring and Fall, millions of Salmon voyage back into their native rivers and streams to spawn. Unfortunately, significant numbers of Coho Salmon never make it to the spawning grounds.
The breakthrough at UW was identifying the acutely toxic compound to the Salmon: 6PPD-quinone. The compound, 6PPD, starts as a tire additive designed to prevent tires from breaking down and aides in meeting federal safety guidelines. These important compounds are known as antidegradants and can protect tires from anything from sunlight to oxygen to extreme temperatures. In the very process of protecting tires from oxidation, 6PPD is transformed into 6PPD-quinone, which was unknowingly toxic to Coho Salmon. As tires wear, the worn rubber is continuously deposited on roadways. This deposited material invariably makes its way into waterways through runoff from rains. Although rain naturally dilutes the runoff, the 6PPD-quinone was found to be toxic at the low concentrations found within streams and rivers.
It is still unknown how widespread this compound is in the environment, but Eurofins maintains advanced instrumentation to be able to confirm with absolute certainty the presence of 6PPD-quinone. This webinar will discuss the emerging contaminant 6PPD-quinone and the means to quantitate it in environmental samples."

"Provider silos of the previous decades are giving way to integrated health networks where various providers serve single and sometimes multiple entities. As independent laboratories, hospitals, and health systems enhance their network of providers—including numerous clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology practice partners, or M&A activities—directors and managers must embrace moving from a disjointed data infrastructure system to value-added connectivity.
Connecting multiple order sources, such as physician EMRs or other laboratories and their LIS, into a laboratory network has become a new operational imperative. The core of this call to action is better test routing and sharing and, even more importantly, accelerating clean lab service orders from all order sources. This aims to improve turnaround time, especially in STAT and other urgent situations, improve physician and patient satisfaction, and ensure timely reimbursement for testing.
Where traditional clinical laboratory operations fall short of these types of advanced connectivity goals, the effects are profound, ranging from delays in patient testing on the front end to rejected claims for reimbursement on the back end.
During the free October 6 webinar, Accelerating Lab Order Connectivity for Measurable ROI: Support for Multi-Lab Networks, hosted by Dark Daily and sponsored by Sunquest, will explain the current landscape and growth of clinical laboratory testing networks and what it means for clinical, anatomic, specialized and esoteric testing."

Data integrity is a hot button topic in most laboratories today and incorporates a wide range of application-specific needs. While data integrity is often associated with compliance related topics, it is equally important in non-regulated labs to ensure confidence in the data itself.
As laboratories work towards digital transformation, the need to extend the data integrity umbrella to data in flight has emerged. In a digitally transformed lab, instrument and application result data should be moving in a digital fashion freely between the instruments and applications that need them. In this environment, it becomes essential that laboratories have the means to ensure that the right data shows up at the right time, in the right format and that a digital chain of custody be available as a reference to support both compliance related needs as well as simple confirmation.
In this webinar, we will discuss how Scitara Digital Lab Exchange (DLX™) provides the critical infrastructure needed to support data integrity, including data in flight, across your end-to-end laboratory ecosystem at the lab, site and global level. Digital transformation and compliance strategies will include:

Capillary electrophoresis plays an important role in the diagnosis of hemoglobinopathy carriers and patients. The general flow is the determination of the red blood cell indices to establish a microcytic hypochromic anemia and Hb-typing by separation and quantitation of the different hemoglobin fractions. DNA analysis is the final confirming step to complete the diagnosis. In the era of Next Generation Sequencing, many genetic labs have employed Whole Exome Sequencing and Inherited Disease panels as tools to analyze DNA and detect disease causing mutation. However, functional assays are considered to be important to establish the function and effects of variants of uncertain significance. Functional assays in hemoglobinopathies are the hematology and the Hb-typing, either by capillary electrophoresis or HPLC, to be completed by DNA analysis as will be demonstrated during the talk."

"The second round of reporting for the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 (PAMA) is coming up January - March 2022 - are you ready?
The PAMA legislation has and will continue to significantly alter Medicare’s payment system for clinical laboratory testing while establishing significant new compliance demands. This legislation also has the potential to impact other payors’ rates, since many private payors base their reimbursement levels on Medicare rates.
Rhodes Group's consultants Denise Mazon and Doug Wussow are here to help you prepare for PAMA by answering your pressing questions, such as:
* How will the second round of cuts impact my lab revenue?
* How will PAMA cuts impact non-Medicare billings?
* How will these insights help my lab make better decisions on go forward strategy?"
"Loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) uses a stand-displacing DNA polymerase and four to six primers to rapidly amplify DNA at a single temperature. By eliminating temperature cycling, a LAMP reaction may be performed with an inexpensive heat source rather than requiring a thermocycler or qPCR instrument. The LAMP reaction is also easier to perform and interpret that qPCR, with novice users obtaining clear yes/no detection results typically within 30 min. These results may be visually interpreted with the naked eye based on turbidity, colorimetric dye, or fluorescence intensity changes. Finally, LAMP is more tolerant of matrix inhibitors found in diverse sample types, allowing many crude samples to be directly assayed without prior nucleic acid purification. For amplification of RNA targets, a one-step reaction can be carried out by simply adding a reverse transcriptase to a LAMP reaction (RT-LAMP).
SARS-Related Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) research and surveillance continues to be paramount, especially given the proportion of asymptotic individuals, emergence of viral variants, and desire to return to work and school. To address the need and urgency of this testing, point-of-care solutions with high sensitivity and rapid turn-around times are required. Several reverse transcription loop-mediated isothermal amplification (RT-LAMP) products have been developed to rapidly, robustly, and specifically detect SARS-CoV-2 and other viral pathogens. Our work at Thermo Fisher Scientific provides the scientific community with RT-LAMP solutions for viral pathogen research and surveillance, including protocols, enzymes, a reaction master mix, and an all-inclusive SARS-Cov-2 assay kit."
