I test steels/stainless steels by ICP, all three suggestions will work! If go the acid route, you might want to add the same amount of acid to the background and standards. We dissolve our things in hcl and nitric.

As you are having problem of repetability, take the more quantity of sample in duplicate. Concentrate the volume by4 fold. Check the accuracy by spiking at limit level & 50 %Fe level. Use nitric acid. Take trial from 2% to 25% of nitric acid with appropriate tubing

According to USP Sample should be soluble
Using any solvent ,
If you have Digester , Make Digestion for 0.1 gram sample by Using 10 ml nitric acid .

Ferric Pyrophosphate is soluble in HCl and whenever you prepare sample make combination of HCl and Nitric acid i.e aqua regia. This will take care of your matrix as well as solubilities of pyrophosphate..

Dry a definite volume (100 ml) of milk sample & char it. Now digest the charred sample with concentrated nitric acid-sulfuric acid (3:1) mixture to remove the organic components till any black/brown mass left. Finally, extract with either dilute nitric or sulfuric acid for analysis.

Yes, acidic digestions is the way forward but use supra pure acids only and very clean utensils. I do find ICP over the top for this as i guess you are looking for results in the ppm region? ICP is much more prone to spectral interferences compared to AAS techniques. So if my guess is right I would go with FAAS analysis using background compensation.

If I understand correctly, Amer, you are adding water to the milk before digestion? I'm curious as to why you are doing this. If you have fine insoluble particulate from the iron, shaking your sample before removing an aliquot will be necessary. Shaking was sufficient for us to achieve adequate homogeneity with insoluble iron oxides in water samples. Repeatability may be improved if you dried a larger portion of the milk sample, wet digest the dry fraction based on weight, and then incorporate the percent mosture into your results. As a side note, you can also lose accuracy and repeatability if you are not doing a complete digestion. We have found hydrochloric acid is necessary for iron digestions.

One way to address sample inhomogeniety is to digest larger portions of the sample and dilute the digests by an additional factor. Otherwise, treat the entire sample in a manner which homogenizes it before you take your duplicate portions, as others have suggested. Make sure your analysis addresses the needs of your customer as well as being scientifically sound. They may want to know just how inhomogenous the sample is.

You can digest your sample by adding 8 ml nitric acid for 8 min in the microwave but before digest add 1 ml hydrogen peroxide with the nitric acid and leave the sample for next day and after that start your digestion

لازم تهضم العينة بحمض النتريك .. بمعنى هتاخد ١٠٠ مل من العينة وبعدين تضيف من ٢-٥ مل نتريك يكون ICP grade وتسخن العينة على حتى الغليان ولحد ما العينة توصل ل ٣٠ ملى وترجع تكملها تانى ل ١٠٠ مل .. بالمياة المقطرة او منزوعة الايونات .. طبعا هتعمل العينات كلها بالطريقة دة وكمان الاستاندرات . وتقدر تعمل عينات كنترول علشان تاكد النتائج

U can take the samples(0.1-0.5g) directly for microwave digestion adding nitric acid 3-5ml and Hydrogen peroxide 0.5 ml and post digestion if found unclear centrifuge it inject the clear sample after vortex...
