PHIL FRIEDMAN, I do agree with your analysis and I think Joe Hage does too. Both of us have re-created our groups outside of Linekdin now and have done it using Wordpress. I think it is time for those who own and operate groups that are vital to their profession to move. I truly think that Linkedin is working to the consumer model as opposed to the professional model. I can only say that they need to do what they think is best and their users will do the same. Perhaps the only way for things to change is for radical change to take place.

As you can see, I obviously still use Linkedin but it is not the center of my social strategy but just one of many parts. My central strategy revolves around the web properties that I own and control. I suggest the same for anyone who has a community on Linkedin that they own and control and depend on.

It's obvious at this point LI is NOT listening to us, Sophie Bonnet's job is PR damage control, not to support us, and that LI is going to create something completely different and scotch-tape the Group label on it.

And it's gotten into censorship - Steve Wallace has me blocked, or is moderating & not approving my posts, on his OMM LI Groups because I am critical of LinkedIn.

Based on history, LinkedIn has never, ever shown any trust in us at all.

Based on history, LinkedIn has shown that what they think is important to Groups is vastly different than what we think is important.

Based on history, LinkedIn has never valued our input.

Based on history, LinkedIn sees us OMMs as a problem.

John Jones, I am pleased to see that both you and Joe Hage have chosen to use WordPress, because my sense of the drift of things is that a significant number of group owners will follow that path, as well. Which will make it a relatively easy matter to bond together is a loose confederation to mutually promote additional organic exposure to the potential audience/membership internationally -- WITHOUT individual group owners having to give up any control or share membership data. Cheers!

Bill Giovino, I do not have any direct knowledge of what is going on with blocking and or moderating your comments that are critical of LinkedIn. But likewise, I have no reason to question what you are saying because I was myself mildly cautioned keep in "positive" by an owner/manager of a group to which I was being invited to join. Well, fat chance of that happening.

It's ironic that Sophie Bonnet at one point mentioned that LI has had complaints about overbearing group owners and managers over-moderating. The implication was, to my mind, that LI sees the groups as "public" space and frowns on too-tight moderation. Yet, I doubt, Sophie and LI will lose much sleep over moderation that serves their purposes. IMO, anyway. One thing you will not see is any form of censorship her in LIGOMM. Cheers!

PHIL, I did complain to Sophie. Her response was to direct me towards an OMM Group also run by someone heavily biased in favor of LinkedIn.

IMO this Group is one of the fairest, most open-minded Groups for OMMs. I'll be posting here.

Bill Giovino, we must all be careful not to live in an echo chamber. No one benefits from a mutual admiration society. Just look at Linkedin... they live in one and look what it is doing to them. I am highly critical of MS and Linkedin. MS because of poor quality and Linkedin because of the self destructive moves taken. That being said, they have value or they would not be mulitbillion dollar outfits. I use them as we all do but it is clear their directions are driving folks away. I have left MS for Linux and I have left Linkedin for Wordpress. I still make use of both MS properties but it is nothing like I used to and I am encouraging and actively helping others to do the same. If such a movement were to take hold, it would eventually have a viral affect on MS. It is very sad what has happened to them.
