Hello Selanna13. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Selanna13. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Selanna13|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Blablubbs|talk 08:24, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Selanna13 (talk) 10:09, 27 April 2021 (UTC) Hi Blablubbs, thank you for the heads-up. I'm not paid for the editing of the articles now, but I used to work on these topics before for other purposes and since I personally learned a lot about some of the awards, I thought it would be a good idea to create an article about awards that would enable to highlight it's recipients' names and works. Most of those recipients are honoured people in the science world and I thought it would be good to have their names on a wikipedia article. Also, it is sort of 2in1 article, that gives information about awards as well as it's recipients, so I found it efficient. I didn't include external websites into the text, but put them in the references. Though if needed, or if it'll be considered as a promotion, I can delete them too. I just wanted to incorporate all the possible resources. And actually, I wanted to to add other sources to each recipient in seperate (I'm still collecting sources) I hope it'll clarify my motives. Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Selanna13 (talk • contribs) 10:09, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your response. To be clear: You have no connection whatsoever to Bayer or any of the awards you're writing about? -- Blablubbs|talk 17:20, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Selanna13 (talk) 14:42, 6 May 2021 (UTC) Hey! I don't have direct connection to the awards, I didn't receive any or I don't give away any, I just know they exist, since I'm doing an internship at Bayer. However, Bayer didn't request these articles. They also don't or cannot profit from it, since they are giving out awards. It's basically a "charity for scientists". It's just not a lot of people know about these awards, though it could be a great opportunity for scientists, so these articles would just increase the visibility of awards for scientists who want to get funded. Since Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia and used by many people, I thought this would fulfill this purpose. But does it still have to be declared as a promotion in this case? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Selanna13 (talk • contribs) 14:42, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Selanna13: You can find some guidance about conflict of interest here: WP:COIEDIT. It does not need to be declared "as a promotion", but you should disclose the conflict of interest. You will find all relevant guidelines at WP:COIEDIT. Best, MarioGom (talk) 23:49, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Blablubbs, MarioGom: I'm revisting this as I just finished undeleting Draft:Otto Bayer Award based on the user request. At the draft talk I saw the connected contributor tag. I understand that an employee or intern writing about the company's article is a COI, however the COI policy does not seem to mention about editing of articles related to the company's products, or award in this case. I would believe editing any article that furthers a company's interests would be a COI. With regards to paid editing, if the internship was paid, it would be paid editing. Comments? Jay 💬 09:28, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Jay: My interpretation of WP:COI and WP:PAID is that it is broad enough to cover any article that furthers a company's interests. That would include, for example, any article about the company, company employees, partners, even competitors, external links and references anywhere, or any generic topic where the contribution is linked in some way. It really covers any contribution that is paid for, or that is construed as being part of a paid role (internships are considered as paid for the purposes of the disclosure policy too).
