Link 2 articles in two languages about the same figure together

I have created a new article Vũ Lăng. After that, I found there is an article about this figure in Vietnamese at vi:Vũ Lăng (thượng tướng) and these two articles are not linked together.
I aslo see existing wikidata item for this figure at d:Q10833838 but it is not linked to en.wiki article.
How can I link them together? Leemyongpak (talk) 02:15, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Asiimwe Ritah Profile Editing

    kindly help me re-organize my profile information 102.85.68.255 (talk) 07:18, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is it the article Ritah Asiimwe, and are you unhappy with it in some way? See WP:AUTOPROB for more detail.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:48, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Hi IP 102.85.68.255. Assuming this is about Ritah Asiimwe and you're "Ritah Asiimwe", please take a look at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Relationship between the subject, the article, and Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Wikipedia doesn't have profiles per se like perhaps you might find on social media; it has encyclopedic articles written about subjects based on what reliable sources have said about said subjects. So, if you tried to edit the article today using another IP address, then that's OK; however, from here on it's probably better for you to make edit requests at Talk:Ritah Asiimwe instead and propose the changes you'd like made. I've reverted the syntax errors introduced earlier today by another IP account, and I also did some minor copyediting and syntax clean up. You should, however, use the article's talk page to propose the changes to the infobox that you think should be made. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:50, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article heading glitchy on mobile version

The 'track listing' heading on Saturns Pattern isn't displaying properly on the mobile phone version of the article - it's appearing vertically. I thought I'd fixed it by adding extra spacing - when I tested it, by copying the whole article into my sandbox, it looks okay on my mobile - but didn't work in the article when I tried the same fix. Many thanks! IndigoBeach (talk) 08:43, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Italian singers

Italian topics, obviously, aren't the most important in the encyclopedia, but I would like to point out a big problem: I have noticed that the titles of Italian songs and albums are often written in English: this doesn't make sense (for example on the Gino Santercole page); it's correct to write the translation, but it's not correct to use only the title translated into English. It's very important to be more careful, also because I'm one and I cannot correct the whole encyclopedia. JacktheBrown (talk) 11:57, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JackkBrown: You might want to raise this at WT:WikiProject Italy (and on individual article talk pages). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:23, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:COMMONNAME would indicate that if the song is known by an English language name, then that is the correct one to use in an English language encyclopaedia.Martin of Sheffield (talk) 14:28, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
JackkBrown is frustrated that editors mechanically translate Italian song titles when translating from Italian Wikipedia, for example here. I agree that it is frustrating, but don't have a solution to the problem. TSventon (talk) 14:41, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon: there is a solution: the pages of Italian singers should be created by Italians (e.g., an excellent user is LukeWiller), as they know the titles in Italian. JacktheBrown (talk) 14:46, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MOS:QUOTEFOREIGN says When editors themselves translate foreign text into English, care must always be taken to include the original text, in italics. As the editor was translating it Wikipedia, they knew the Italian title, but they appear not to have known that they should have kept the Italian titles. TSventon (talk) 15:08, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon: I think that a large-scale control is indispensable, as I said, as far as I can do, I remain one person. JacktheBrown (talk) 16:56, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not going to happen on this website, any more than "Christian topics for Christians only". Italians can choose to show up and edit. If they don't, they don't and content will be made by others. And why specifically "Italian singers" instead of "Italian mountaineers"? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:14, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: "And why specifically "Italian singers" instead of "Italian mountaineers"?". Only for Italian singers because:

there is a solution: the pages of Italian singers should be created by Italians (e.g., an excellent user is LukeWiller), as they know the titles in Italian. JacktheBrown (talk) 14:46, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

    JacktheBrown (talk) 18:58, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

JackkBrown, when you write there is a solution: the pages of Italian singers should be created by Italians, I can assure you that your proposal absolutely will not be accepted. One of our core principles is that Wikipedia is the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, as lomg as they comply with policies and guidelines. We are not going to carve out an exception for Italian topics. And how would this large scale control that you mention even be implemented? We have policies and guidelines that we are all expected to follow, but no mechanism for large scale control of content matters. As for notable Italian topics, they are no less important than any other notable topics. Rome is just as important as London and Florence is just as important as Dallas. Cullen328 (talk) 17:27, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Cullen328: that's not true: American and British topics are preferred, just look at the statistics; I agree that Italy, United States and United Kingdom are equally important in this encyclopaedia, but they are treated differently; suffice it to say that most of my edits concern Italian topics, and I have not yet finished correcting and improving the pages. JacktheBrown (talk) 17:41, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    What's not true? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:10, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: the fact that Italian topics, as preference, are equal to American and British ones; based on the views of the various pages, this isn't true. Mine isn't a complaint. JacktheBrown (talk) 18:49, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cullen said nothing about "equal". Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:06, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång: then I misinterpreted the comment. JacktheBrown (talk) 19:13, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
JackkBrown, there is no connection between "importance" and the number of page views. Many popular culture topics get very heavy page views. For example, Richard Lewis (comedian) died on February 27, and in the next week, his biography was the third most heavily viewed article on this website. That does not mean that Lewis is more "important" than Rome or Michelangelo or Sicily. Cullen328 (talk) 23:44, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Cullen328: now I understand what you mean, thank you. JacktheBrown (talk) 00:54, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Mysterious ex-wikipedia page

Hi, I'm in the early stages of writing an article about 1980s UK film-maker Cliff Twemlow, and when checking to see what WP already has on him (very little, and no article) I found this page, which appears to be a WP article about him, and states "This article is issued from Wikipedia", the link being to a deleted page with oldid=1081611956. hello, how to i create my organization Wikipedia page

hii, Am i arulkrishna, i have to tried many times to create our organization related informative wikipage Arulkrishna2096 (talk) 04:47, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Arulkrishna2096. Are you aware of Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything, Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies)? If not, then perhaps you should take a look at those pages. The only way any article about your organization is going to be allowed to be created is if the subject matter clearly is considered to be Wikipedia:Notable; this means that it's clearly the case your organization has received significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources. Furthermore, anyone personally or profressionally associated with the organization in more than a casual way is almost certainly going to be considered to have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, and thus shouldn't really be trying to create such an article themselves. Moreover, depending upon the nature of their association, such a person could also be subject to Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure regarding any content created or edited about the organization on Wikipedia. Finally, assuming your edit here on April 11 was just a mistake, then that's OK; just please don't make any more similar edits in the future. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:08, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Very likely an underestimation. It has long been evident that this user (who also has an account but has seemingly been embarrased into not using it by previous admonitions) is inherently unable to perceive such typos, whether from sight-related or device-related issues, and/or what one might call "code-blindness". Since most of her many contributions have been accepted as constructive, it's easier in the long run just to correct her occasional mistakes rather than to try to teach her not to make them. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 151.227.134.31 (talk) 17:49, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So they are incapable of learning how to do it? It seems odd that they are capable of writing a reference but not fixing errors with one that they wrote. If that's neverthless the case, it might be better for them and us if they worked with a particular editor or editors as a mentor. 331dot (talk) 19:26, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How do I fix this error

There is an error that says "Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page)." in A Killer's Confession - Wikipedia. How do I fix this? Perfecnot (talk) 02:42, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Perfecnot: it looks like another editor has fixed this. It appears some text was deleted that removed the closing ref tag. RudolfRed (talk) 03:02, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    About Infobox Company

I was reading the page Template:Infobox company and trying to clear my confusion about Legal and Trade name of company. Then found this statement under trade_name: "Trade name, doing business as, d/b/a or fictitious business name under which a company presents itself to the public. This parameter is used only when the company has a legally registered trade name that is different from the company's full, legal name.

Can anyone clear this above 👆statement what exactly it means?

I checked Wikipedia page of "Google" there is no mention of Trade name of Google LLC. Octo2k (talk) 06:00, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sometimes a company's legal name, which it is registered with and puts on official documents and the like, is distinct from it's common name which it advertises with and which the public would generally refer to it with. For example, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation is a legal name for a company that is commonly known as Amtrak. And Little Caesar Enterprises Inc is more commonly known as Little Caesars. In these cases the common name is called it's "trade name" or "Doing Business As" name. In Google's case, Google LLC is their legal name but it's not distinct from Google which is the name that they trade as. -- D'n'B-t -- 06:30, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. Want to clear one more thing, is Cellco Partnership is legal name of Verizon Wireless, it's written as example of Template: Infobox Company, but i checked the Wikipedia page of Verizon Wireless there is no mention of Cellco Partnership in Verizon Wireless Wikipedia page's Infobox company? Octo2k (talk) 06:52, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A good point. You could change the |name = field in that case, to reflect the legal name. Although if I were going to do that I would include a reference that gives both names, such as this, to avoid any confusion. -- D'n'B-t -- 16:38, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Referencing self published or pre-published articles

When correcting citations which fall under the "CS1 errors: missing periodical" alert, what should the journal name be written as for self-published or pre-published essays which are sourced only on open access repositories? For instance, an article from bioRxiv.

Specific example: The fourth reference to the Aedes koreicus article Tanaya001 (talk) 10:11, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Don't use the Cite journal template if there's no journal. See Template:Cite document/doc. 118.18.141.213 (talk) 11:55, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Better to use {{cite biorxiv}} to cite articles/papers at the bioRxiv preprint server.

    LGBT rights map is incorrect

    Hello.

I want some help in editing the map being used on LGBT rights by country or territory (Template:World laws pertaining to homosexual relationships and expression).

The information concering South Asia appears to be incorrect:

    • Pakistan should be changed to "Prison, with arrests or detention"
    • Bangladesh and Sri Lanka shoud be changed to "Prison, not enforced" (I have no idea why Bangladesh is coloured as having same-sex relationship legal protections).

I have a feeling that Pakistan might be controversial, but the following do state that there are arrests of LGBTQ in the country, especially the UK foreign office summary:

    Pakistan

How to go about uploading files based off of copyrighted content?

Several NFL teams have been updating their uniforms recently, which renders the images of their current uniforms outdated. For example, the page for the New York Jets displays this image, which is no longer accurate. I've been working on an updated version, both with as little anti-aliasing as possible to make it easier to edit, as well as to reflect the recent changes; this is similar to the previously referenced images, but updated and accurate to the real, current uniforms. I'm not quite sure how to approach uploading it, though; I have to wait four more days and contribute 10 edits before I can upload directly to the English Wikipedia, which is heavily advised when dealing with copyrighted content (in this case, imagery based off of the trademark of a professional sports team worth billions). I also have updated uniforms for the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, am currently working on the Houston Texans, and I plan to adapt all the uniforms to this template.

Any advice? Thanks in advance ExpergeTech (talk) 14:56, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ExpergeTech. You might want to discuss this at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League before proceeding further because most likely the members of that WikiProject are aware of the recent changes made to team uniforms and may have already begun discussing how to deal with it with respect to the Wikipedia articles about the teams. They will also probably know how to best upload new images of the uniforms. -- Marchjuly (talk) 15:11, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, ExpergeTech. I do not see a copyright issue here. The current image File:NY jets uniforms19.png is hosted on Wikimedia Commons (not English Wikipedia) and is freely licensed, and not copyright restricted. It was created by Fma12 who is highly active on both projects. You can either ask that editor for assistance or do the same thing that they did. It is against policy to upload copyright protected images when freely licensed alternatives are available. Cullen328 (talk) 00:50, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, ExpergeTech, there are articles about the New York Jets (and presumably other NFL teams) in 14 language versions of Wikipedia. Uploading the updated uniform image to Commons not to English Wikipedia allows the image to be used in any language, not just English. Cullen328 (talk) 01:05, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Creating an English Wikipedia Page for Mezzo-Soprano Anousha Nazari

I have created an English Wikipedia page for Anousha Nazari, a mezzo-soprano singer, using references from reputable media sources and content from the French and Persian versions of Wikipedia.

    Here is the link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Birobih/sandbox.

How can I submit and publish it? Birobih (talk) 23:21, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Birobih. Please read Template:AfC submission/submit and add it to the top of your draft. Then submit it. Cullen328 (talk) 00:22, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Birobih: I would remove, the non-rs facebook references and the blog references e.g. paperblog which are likely WP:SPS sources. On the references, the website property is the name of the name of the website, not the url. I would remove the dots between the references and be aware of WP:CITEKILL. These is a style guide on Wikipedia WP:MOS, which describes how textual elements should be laid out. This advice will help you get a successful review. Hope it helps. scope_creepTalk 03:05, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Regency of Algiers knackered ref

Morning folks!! Does anybody know how to fix the 2nd Saidouni ref on the Regency of Algiers article. Its a script chapter error. 2 editors have looked and no joy. scope_creepTalk 02:58, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is the help link and the template documentation not helpful? Also, |title= in that template should be |script-title= because Arabic-script text.

@Trappist the monk: Not really. I thought the docs would have helped but I couldn't fix it, nor could Nourerrahmane. Its now been fixed in the interim. A simple fix as well. Its great when you know. Thanks for quick reply. Its really welcome. scope_creepTalk 03:41, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
