3rd Millennium Bioinformatics Consulting Firm Receives Small Business Innovation Army Quality Award from the Department of Defense

3rd Millennium, a leading bioinformatics consulting firm, announced today that it has received a SBIR Phase II Army Quality Award from the Department of Defense for its work on its innovative bioinformatics platform for the collection, storage, and analysis of microarray data. The system named the Array Repository and Data Analysis System (ARDAS(TM)) consists of a Lab Information Management System (LIMS) for managing the laboratory processes and the collection of data from both 2-color spotted and Affymetrix experiments, an Analysis Information Management System (AIMS) that integrates a sophisticated workflow engine and computational tools for the statistical analysis of the data, and a data warehouse for storing and organizing both raw and analyzed data sets.

The Quality Awards program recognizes exceptional Army SBIR Phase II projects. Each year a distinguished panel of Army and industry experts selects the winning projects from nominations submitted from across the Army. Nominations are evaluated based on their originality and innovation of research. This program is very competitive and this year 240 projects were eligible to compete for the award. For these 204 projects, 104 applications where submitted, and the panel selected 7 of those projects that represent the best technology innovation, relevance to the needs of the Army, and commercialization potential to receive the award.

“We are extremely proud and honored to receive such a distinguished award from the Department of Defense,” said Ousama Shamma, president of 3rd Millennium. “ARDAS is an exemplification of the high-quality systems that we provide to our clients and of our deep understanding of the life sciences. Our commitment to provide leading-edge, robust and high-quality systems that are intuitive to the end-user is unmatched in the industry and is exemplified by this Award.”
