400,000+ Visit Lab Tests Online in August

Lab Tests Online, the patient education web site produced by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry (AACC), hosted more than 400,000 visitors in a single month, a first for the site. A total of 409, 271 visitors came to the site in August, an increase of 78% over the same month last year. The new high puts the site on track to host over 4 million visitors for the calendar year.

In addition, Lab Tests Online-UK, the United Kingdom’s version of Lab Tests Online, attracted over 22,000 visitors in its second month since launching on June 16. The Association of Clinical Biochemists (ACB) publishes lab Tests Online- UK under license agreement with AACC.

Lab Tests Online is the premiere web site for laboratory testing information, and the only such site that is developed by the laboratory community – the people who do the testing. Launched in July 2001, the original site has achieved a steady stream of recognition, including awards for content and writing, and its positive impact on American society. In the March 2004 issue, Prevention magazine called Lab Tests Online one of the “smartest health sites on the web.”

As the site’s usage has continued to grow, so too has its reach. While the vast majority of users hail from the United States, people from more than 100 other countries also visited the site in August. The top 20 countries outside the US with the most number of visitors last month were:

1. Australia
2. United Kingdom
3. Canada
4. Singapore
5. New Zealand
6. Israel
7. Saudi Arabia
8. India
9. Netherlands
10. South Africa
11. Mexico
12. Philippines
13. Thailand
14. Germany
15. Japan
16. Belgium
17. Brazil
18. France
19. Taiwan
20. Turkey

One recently received user comment reflected the site’s far-flung influence. The anonymous user wrote, “I am an international red cross delegate currently working for a medical project for Iraq. Your site has been incredibly valuable to me for many different reasons… and hopefully for the patients. Thank you.”

The site’s ability to attract users has made it a key component in the laboratory community’s efforts to increase the value of the lab profession. Lab Tests Online’s editorial focus shows more than 13,000 visitors a day the value of laboratory testing and the important role of the laboratory professional in today’s health care system.
