45 Students will Travel to SLAS2013 Through the SLAS Tony B. Academic Travel Awards Program

CHICAGO—October 24, 2012— In service of its mission to encourage the study of laboratory automation and screening, the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) honors 45 undergraduate students, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty members with SLAS Tony B. Academic Travel Awards for SLAS2013, the Second Annual SLAS Conference and Exhibition, which will be held January 12-16, 2013, at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, FL, USA.

45 students from 12 different countries earned invitations to present their scientific achievements at SLAS2013. Through the SLAS Tony B. Academic Travel Awards program, each will receive roundtrip travel (coach airfare or mileage reimbursement), shared hotel accommodations and full conference registration.  Winners were determined by a panel of judges who conducted comprehensive evaluations of student abstract proposals and made selections based on scientific merit.

“SLAS invests $50,000 in this important annual program. The Tony B. Awards reflect the heart of the SLAS mission by encouraging the next generation of scientific thought leaders to explore the future of laboratory science and technology,” says SLAS President Dave Dorsett.

The Tony B. Academic Travel Awards honor the late Tony Beugelsdijk, Ph.D., an inspirational and iconic leader in the field of laboratory science and technology. Tony Beugelsdijk served at the forefront of this discipline, guiding its early stages of creation and development and making an extraordinary impact on the SLAS community.
