5AM Solutions Releases biolocator™, SaaS Solution for Biobanking

Software delivers a centralized biospecimen inventory over the web to the next generation of researchers.

5AM Solutions has made their popular biolocator™ software available to the open market in SaaS (Software as a Service) form. Designed as a tool to facilitate the discovery and sharing of biospecimens for research, biolocator is web-based software that allows disparate biobanks to be linked together, providing a single de-identified view of biospecimens available. “Procurement of quality biospecimens is always in the foreground of discovery-oriented scientific research,” said Bill Mason, VP of Products and Assets at 5AM. “A tool like biolocator consolidates and even removes many of the traditional time consuming steps needed to make forward progress, ultimately allowing organizations to get to the research component–and to breakthroughs–much earlier.”

The biolocator provides a framework for moving specimen data from the freezer to the cloud, exposing specified elements for public consumption through a simple de-identified interface. It manages all information, from biospecimen details to order forms and shipping invoices. All biospecimen data is centrally located to ensure fast and secure search response times, while the biospecimens themselves remain at their original source. Role-based security allows users to have access only to defined areas, and biolocator also includes a comprehensive record of all activities for audit and security purposes.
