Editorial Reviews: from introduction — Over the last two decades incredible changes have occurred within the LIMS industry. The LIMS Workbook 3rd edition examines these changes along with providing an introduction to Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS). The basic LIMS benefits and features are present in a practical workbook style. Both authors began working with LIMS before the term was invented over 20 years ago. One wrote the first commercially available LIMS for HP midrange computers and the other wrote an in house LIMS for a large industrial laboratory. Since then we have both been continually active in the LIMS arena as vendor, user and consultants. The first edition was published as the LIMS Workbook: A Practical Guide, by Mike McGinnis and Norman Perkins (1991).
