The Canadian Centre for Pollution Prevention Chooses the Oxegen Platform

Toronto, ON – March 10, 2004: Oxegen Inc. and the Canadian Centre for Pollution Prevention (C2P2), both headquartered in Ontario, are pleased to announce that they have signed an agreement to develop an Environmental Management System (EMS) built specifically for the Canadian Healthcare industry.

The Healthcare EMS Project is a collaborative effort between C2P2, the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, Oxegen and a number of hospitals across Canada to build a generic EMS for healthcare facilities.

The Healthcare EMS will be of great benefit to the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care’s Group EMS Peer Assistance Project. Health Canada’s Office of Sustainable Development has agreed to provide some core funding for the Group EMS Peer Assistance Project. Health Canada is interested in the progress made towards EMS development in the participating hospitals and documenting the process used in order to facilitate the transfer to other healthcare facilities.

“An EMS is part of an overall management system that includes organizational structure, planning activities, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes and resources for developing, implementing, achieving, reviewing and maintaining an environmental policy. One of most often cited barriers to implementing an EMS is the up-front time required and the prohibitive costs of developing such a system,” said Chris Wolnik, Executive Director of C2P2.

“To facilitate this development, the Internet-based Oxegen platform will be used and the OxegenHEMSdeveloped for this project will allow the transfer of this EMS to other healthcare facilities easily and at an affordable cost. The Oxegen platform is designed to allow a generic Oxegen EMS built for a specific industry to be used by any number of other facilities as a baseline system. The system can be easily customized by each healthcare facility for their own use thereby removing the complexity and time required to set up an EMS from scratch,” said Chantal Vaillancourt, Vice-President, Business Development with Oxegen Inc.
