Bio-Rad Further Extends Software Offerings to Academic Community
Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. announced today the introduction of KnowItAll® Informatics System version 4.0, which will give academic chemistry software users “on-demand” access to additional software options.
In September 2003, Bio-Rad released the KnowItAll Academic Edition to promote learning and research initiatives in academia. Since then, users from thousands of universities around the world have downloaded the KnowItAll Academic Edition via www.knowitall.com/academic This product offers completely free and fully integrated chemical structure drawing, publishing, and spectral analysis software applications.
Because of the success of the fall academic program and the increasing demand for other solutions offered by Bio-Rad, the company is initiating “on-demand” access to expand its offerings to the academic community. With “on-demand” access, Academic Edition users can automatically activate additional software options within KnowItAll, such as the IUPAC NameIt™ for IUPAC naming and Model It HNMR for advanced proton NMR spectrum prediction. All transactions take place conveniently via a secure Internet connection, and there is no need to install additional software to access the new or upgraded applications. KnowItAll users simply choose the software and database options they wish to purchase, and the new functionality is automatically activated. In its continued commitment to the academic community, Bio-Rad is pleased to offer these additional software options at a discounted rate to the academic community.
“We have had an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the free Academic Edition software as educators have integrated these powerful tools into their curriculum,” remarked Gregory M. Banik, Ph.D., Bio-Rad General Manager of Informatics. “We look forward to broadening this fully functional and well-rounded toolset with more advanced options at affordable prices with the release of KnowItAll version 4.0.”
KnowItAll Academic software and database tools can be used by students, teachers, and researchers at any level and work particularly well in organic and analytical chemistry curricula to teach students fundamentals of structure and bonding as well as advanced spectroscopy and spectrometry techniques. In particular, Bio-Rad’s software tools for IR and Raman functional group analysis – all part of the free, basic package – allow students to approach these sometimes hard-to-grasp concepts in a way that is both visual and interactive, thus making the learning experience understandable and memorable.
