Xybernaut Extends Visibility in Medical Sector; Team Xybernaut Partner Offers Wireless Barcode Solutions to Hospitals

Team Xybernaut(TM) partner Care Fusion, a leading developer of mobile computing technologies and related solutions for healthcare and medical applications, announced that it has developed a wireless, hand-held barcode solution to reduce medical errors related to specimen collection and laboratory results reporting. The announcement (see following Internet link) indicates that Care Fusion is exhibiting at the CLMA (Clinical Laboratory Management Association) meeting in Atlanta, GA — which began Sunday, March 27.

The announcement was of importance to Xybernaut(R) (Nasdaq:XYBR) because its relationship with Care Fusion extends the Company’s visibility into the medical sector.

The release noted that Care Fusion customer — The Washington Hospital Center — “was enthusiastic,” about the wCareCollect(TM) solution and that commercial hospitals who have purchased wCareCollect, “see it as a critical component in reducing medical errors that threaten patient safety and can lead to major liability exposure.”

“We believe it is important to share Care Fusion’s announcement with our investors and other communities who follow Xybernaut,” said Steven A. Newman, Xybernaut president and COO, “because it’s a good example of how we are advancing business opportunities with our more than 100 Team Xybernaut partners on solutions that involve mobile/wearable technologies. We don’t typically announce these involvements because many of our partners, particularly the larger ones, have policies against announcing partner activities for competitive and other reasons.”

Newman also pointed that Care Fusion’s announcement is an example of how companies (similar to Xybernaut) often announce initiatives that are of interest not necessarily from a “hard news” perspective, rather because of the unique nature of the technology or solution and the potential these solutions hold for an industry segment — in this case, healthcare/medical.

Care Fusion uses Xybernaut MA V(R) and Atigo(R) products as a mobile/wearable computing platforms for its wireless wCareCollect solution. The Xybernaut-Care Fusion solutions allow healthcare providers to scan a patient’s barcoded wristband to positively identify the patient, verify orders, and print a time-stamped barcode label for any specimen being collected. Because the system is wireless, the care provider has up-to-the-moment patient information to assure that the right specimens are being drawn at the right time, from the right patient, for the right tests — even if an order was changed just moments before.

“Together, Xybernaut and Care Fusion provide medical professionals the ability to achieve entirely new levels of quality and performance,” added Newman.
