Eclipsys Delivers Sunrise Clinical Manager Release 3.5 XA; Latest Release Positions Eclipsys to Support the ”Agile Hospital”
Eclipsys Corporation(R), The Outcomes Company(R), announced the general availability of Sunrise Clinical Manager 3.5 XA(TM), the latest release of its Sunrise(TM) advanced clinical software solutions.
Representing the next phase in the evolution of Eclipsys’ advanced clinical solutions, Release 3.5 XA is being delivered on schedule and with significantly more functionality than previous releases of Eclipsys’ award-winning Sunrise Clinical Manager. Included in this release is significant additional functionality for core clinical, ambulatory and emergency department solutions as well as enhancements to its patient management functions. It also extends support for physicians through the inclusion of advanced functionality for clinical decision support, structured notes, medical necessity checking, prescription writing and medication management configuration.
Release 3.5 XA includes significant enhancements in remote access services, furthering Eclipsys’ vision of “anytime and anywhere” accessibility by physicians. With this capability, physicians may review patient results, view documents, access secure health messaging and obtain clinical patient summaries securely from home, the office, the airport or elsewhere, thereby increasing the speed, continuity and efficiency of care delivery.
Sunrise Clinical Manager 3.5 XA also extends support for nurses by including significant additional clinical documentation and Knowledge-Based Charting capabilities. Release 3.5 is preconfigured for use with evidence-based medical content to support best practice treatment plans. The incorporation of clinical practice guidelines within Release 3.5 XA helps healthcare organizations meet the professional standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Magnet Recognition Program for nurses. With over 20 years of experience in delivering nursing documentation, Eclipsys has a solid track record of supporting nurses in delivering quality healthcare.
“Sunrise Clinical Manager 3.5 XA has gone through the same extensive internal testing as Release 3.3, our prior release, and reflects Eclipsys’ attention to high quality and robust performance that our customers expect,” said John Gomez, Eclipsys’ chief technology officer. “Sunrise Clinical Manager 3.5 XA builds on our prior achievements, and our customers can expect to see the same performance levels that we achieved with Release 3.3. Sunrise Clinical Manager 3.5 XA also achieves high levels of performance and quality while continuing to reduce a hospital’s total cost of ownership.”
Eclipsys expects to make generally available Sunrise Clinical Manager Release 4.0 XA, the next phase in the evolution of its Sunrise Clinical Manager products, in the first quarter of 2005.
Latest release positions Eclipsys to support the “agile hospital”
Release 3.5 XA positions Eclipsys to support the “agile hospital” by enabling its customers to harness the power of Eclipsys’ software, technology, medical content, services and support, to compete effectively in today’s demanding healthcare environment.
Eclipsys’ software is built on a federated database model utilizing a flexible, clinical workflow engine. Eclipsys’ open and flexible technology platform enables healthcare providers to share information securely among disparate systems both inside and outside of their organizations. Supported by the Microsoft .NET Framework and other industry standards — and when combined for use with Eclipsys’ Remote Access Services/XA software (thin-client offering) — Eclipsys’ software is capable of running on any browser and operating system including Macintosh-based systems. Eclipsys’ technology platform is non-proprietary and may be customized by healthcare providers to meet their unique needs.
“Through Eclipsys’ Objects Plus/XA initiative, we have opened up our context and security objects,” said Gomez. “This enables our clients’ internal developers using Microsoft .NET to interact with our systems to build customized, internal applications — quickly, easily and intuitively.” Future releases of the platform will support Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)-based Web services, allowing for further extensibility of the platform using any technology capable of interacting with Web services.
Eclipsys’ software offers customers the capability of building intelligent workflows with the goal of delivering the right information to the right person on the right device at the right time in order to enhance decision making. Eclipsys solutions also aim to increase physician adoption and utilization through a combination of Eclipsys’ embedded, evidence-based medical content, business services and customer support.
The scalability of Eclipsys’ technology is designed to meet the needs of large healthcare systems or small community hospitals. Eclipsys’ software may be widely deployed, yet centrally managed, by healthcare organizations.
“At a time of increased focus by President Bush and others on the critical need to expand the use of health information technology, Eclipsys is delivering advanced technology that can be used to further the federal government’s goal of paperless hospitals,” said Paul L. Ruflin, Eclipsys president and CEO. “Through the use of Eclipsys’ solutions, our customers are well positioned to lead the movement toward a national electronic health record, an important step in achieving the ‘agile hospital.'”
