LION bioscience and TEMIS Announce Partnership to Enhance Text Mining Solutions for the Life Science Industry

LION bioscience and TEMIS announced that they have entered into a collaboration in the area of Text Mining. Under this agreement, TEMIS will provide their Text Mining Technology to LION for integration into SRS and LION Target Engine(TM). As part of the agreement, LION becomes a preferred reseller for TEMIS software in the life sciences and will also develop and market custom thesauri and language rules for data extraction using the TEMIS technology (Skill Cartridges(TM)).

LION is integrating the TEMIS Insight Discoverer(TM) Extractor and Skill Cartridges(TM) for biological and clinical text data into SRS and LION Target Engine(TM). Using state-of-the-art natural language processing (NLP) Text Mining technology provided by TEMIS, structured content can be extracted from any text document, such as publicly available scientific literature or those contained in proprietary collections of reports. By integrating this technology, users are given access to a virtually infinite amount of information, which can then be further analyzed using the LION applications.

“Life Sciences companies have been struggling to harvest structured data from text documents in order to improve the decision making process in drug discovery. TEMIS, a leading provider of Text Mining solutions in the Life Sciences, ideally suits this need”, said Dr. Daniel Keesman, co-CEO and COO of LION bioscience.

“The integration of the heterogenous information in the Life Science industry is a formidable challenge and will eventually lead to an increase of efficiency of the drug discover process. With LION bioscience, the leading provider of integration technologies in Life Sciences, we have found the ideal partner,” said Charles Huot, CEO of TEMIS.

About TEMIS

TEMIS, a leader in Text Mining, develops and markets software solutions for Text Mining, enabling the optimization of information processing by transforming free text into data that can be analyzed for information extraction or automatic classification of documents. TEMIS (http://www.temis-group.com ) products play a critical role in fields where information processing is complex due to the volume of information, as well as provide substantial productivity gains. The excellent quality of TEMIS results is due to the use of adaptive and domain-specific Skill Cartridges(TM) containing a set of compiled rules (e.g. Biological Entities Skill Cartridge(TM) co-developed with Fraunhofer Institute SCAI). The company was created in September 2000 and currently has subsidiaries in France, Germany, Italy, UK and partners in the rest of Europe and the United States. Customers include Alcatel, Bertelsmann, Dresdner Bank, EADS CCR, France Telecom, IBM, IPSEN, Novartis, Renault, TIM-Telecom Italia Mobile and Total.
