Iris Intrepid II Enables Environmental Analysis Compliance
Thermo Electron Corporation’s next generation XDL and XSP ICP spectrometer, the Iris Intrepid II, can alleviate the burden that legislation places upon environmental analysts. With protocol compliance, best-in-class detection limits and high throughput, the enhanced functionality ensures compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, and compatibility with different methodologies and future templates to satisfy national legislations. Providing extreme performance through better stability and improved sensitivity, the Iris Intrepid II already enables customers to meet the required performance targets laid down by the EPA in method 6010b, which describes the use of ICP-OES instrumentation to determine metallic elements in aqueous and solid compounds. The instrument benefits water companies and contract laboratories in their analyses, and it is also suitable for the metallurgical, petrochemical, geochemical, food and beverage, and agriculture industries.
More time can be spent determining samples and less time wasted with recalibration during a typical analytical run due to the improved optical system of the Intrepid II, which integrates an enhanced thermal regulation and air flow management system to optimize image stability. Coupled with mass flow control of the plasma gases and the dual stabilized RF generator, this results in exceptional stability of the analytical signal. Quality control checks are easily recovered within target values over extended periods of time. Interference correction factors also remain well within the limits required by the EPA. The Iris Intrepid II achieves best-in-class detection limits with a new design of the exclusive Charge Injection Device (CID) detector. Compared to previous detectors, it achieves enhanced sensitivity, and displays secured lower noise characteristics.
