Eclipsys Clinical and Financial Software, Outsourcing and Remote Hosting Services to Be Deployed by McKenna Health System
Eclipsys Corporation(R), The Outcomes Company(R), today announced that McKenna Health System, a 132-bed community health system based in New Braunfels, TX, will deploy Eclipsys’ Sunrise(TM) advanced clinical and financial information software and will engage the company’s outsourcing and remote hosting services. Implementation is scheduled to begin in April.
Transforming processes
“We were looking for an information solution that would help us transform our clinical and financial processes across the health system and improve patient care, safety and cost-effectiveness,” said Allen Strickland, McKenna chief financial officer. “Our existing information system just didn’t meet our needs for such things as evidence-based clinical content, advanced alerting and computerized physician order entry — capabilities that are recognized today as essential for providing the best and most efficient care. When we examined the choice of vendor solutions, we quickly focused on Eclipsys.
“Eclipsys’ highly regarded implementation, remote hosting and outsourcing services will enable us to provide the information technology support needed to achieve our goals,” Strickland added. “Together, we can cost-effectively grow and maintain world-class information technology.”
Eclipsys outsourcing and remote hosting services help healthcare organizations use information technology strategically so they can achieve immediate results in performance and infrastructure, while supporting their long-term goals. Eclipsys leverages its rich domain resources and uses recognized best practices to drive efficiencies far higher than most healthcare organizations could achieve on their own.
Under the terms of the agreement, employees that currently support McKenna’s IT operations will be transferred to Eclipsys.
When implementation is completed, McKenna’s 109 physicians and other clinicians will have anytime, anywhere access to information — from within McKenna Memorial Hospital, the health system’s many specialty clinics, or even remote access from physicians’ offices, homes and other remote locations.
“Eclipsys provides the clinical and financial functionality and information technology management services to help community hospitals realize their goals of increasing efficiency, improving patient care, and maximizing resources and reimbursements,” said Paul L. Ruflin, Eclipsys president and CEO. “Because of the scalability of our solutions due to our XA(TM) extended architecture, we can meet the information technology needs of healthcare organizations of virtually any size, not just large medical centers and integrated delivery networks.”
Tim Brierty, McKenna president and CEO, noted that “The Eclipsys solutions will better connect people and processes throughout our facilities, and improve linkages between the health system and the community we serve. We are committed to being a partner in health to Comal County residents, and this long-term partnership with Eclipsys will support that goal.”
In addition to Eclipsys’ outsourcing and remote hosting capabilities, McKenna will deploy Eclipsys’ Sunrise Clinical Manager with its Nursing and Critical Care solutions, Sunrise ED Manager, Sunrise Medication Management, Knowledge-Based Medication Administration, Knowledge-Based Charting, Morrisey Concurrent Care Manager, Sunrise Surgical Manager, Sunrise Decision Support Manager, advanced financial management and laboratory solutions.
Connecting the healthcare enterprise
Eclipsys’ Sunrise family of advanced information solutions is designed to connect the healthcare enterprise, helping ensure that physicians, nurses, managers and others have the information they need — anytime, anywhere on any device — to make the best decisions for their patients. The connected enterprise operates efficiently, with minimal paper, and moves patients effectively across the continuum of care. This translates to higher levels of patient safety and organizational cost-efficiency.
