Dade Behring Awards $85,000 in Medical Laboratory Science Scholarships to 34 Students in Four-Year Programs across the United States

Dade Behring Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:DADE) today announced that it has awarded $85,000 in scholarships to university students enrolled in medical technologist programs in the U. S. for the spring semester, 2005. The company has expanded its original scholarship program, initiated in 2002 to support U.S. students pursuing two-year medical technician degrees, to also include students pursuing bachelor’s degrees and other programs of continuing education worldwide. For its expanded U.S. program, the company worked with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) as its administrative partner.

Survey data from clinical laboratories around the world indicate that one of the most pressing problems faced by labs is a shortage of skilled technologists and technicians. The Dade Behring scholarship programs directly address that shortage. Dade Behring’s total contribution to the education of technicians for medical laboratories will be $1,250,000 through 2008.

“Dade Behring is committed to providing relevant, real-world solutions to the laboratory — through its innovation, its service, its worldwide health care consulting team , and initiatives such as the global scholarship program, all of which are designed to strengthen our bonds with our customers,” said Jim Reid-Anderson, Chairman, President and CEO, Dade Behring. “We listen carefully to our customers and then work to provide them with solutions that are innovative, responsive and truly tailored to their needs.”

“Dade Behring’s commitment to the education of laboratory professionals could not come at a more opportune time as the profession faces the very real possibility of severe personnel shortages in the next few years,” said LoAnn Peterson, MD, FACP, President of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. “This incredible contribution, coming at exactly the time it will do the most good, provides young people an incentive and opportunity to enter one of the most critical and important areas of healthcare. We can’t thank Dade Behring enough for their support of the laboratory profession.”
