INCOGEN Releases Version 3.3 of VIBE Data Pipelining Software for Informatics
INCOGEN has announced the release of Version 3.3 of the award-winning Visual Integrated Bioinformatics Environment: VIBE.
Version 3.3 continues the deployment of enhancements and new features for the client-server bioinformatics environment from INCOGEN. VIBE has pioneered the use of cross-platform technology and a “drag and drop” user interface to greatly accelerate the creation and deployment of analysis workflows. Please visit http://incogen.com/vibe33 for more information. Key elements of the 3.3 release include:
— Deployed on Java 5
As the first release using Java 5, VIBE 3.3 takes advantage of many recent improvements in the Java programming language to provide a more efficient user experience.
— Automated discovery of VIBE Servers
VIBE Servers have the ability to announce their presence on a network through the Bonjour network protocol. This allows VIBE clients to automatically detect them, removing the need for manual configuration.
— SDK Wizard
Extending the VIBE platform to include additional in-house or third-party tools using the VIBE Software Development Kit (SDK) is now easier than ever with the introduction of the “New Module Wizard.” This wizard walks the user through a series of steps to build a module, including both required elements to optional pieces. Detailed information is available every step of the way, and the wizard generates thoroughly commented XML files and Java code stubs, when necessary.
— New vector masking algorithm
Now, in addition to the ability to run Crossmatch through VIBE to perform vector masking analyses, users can also utilize the INCOGEN Vector Mask module, which is built atop a 100%-Java implementation of Smith-Waterman called JAligner. This algorithm does not require a third-party license to use and provides a cost-effective alternative for researchers on a budget.
— Faster and simpler VIBE server installer
With VIBE 3.3 comes a hassle-free installation. The platform is delivered as a zip file that can simply be unzipped and launched. VIBE will configure itself almost entirely based on its environment; optional configuration items can be set through a web page (for the server) or a Preferences panel (for the client).
