Insightful Awarded Contract with National Cancer Institute; Insightful to Develop Advanced Bioinformatics Software for Cancer Prevention Research
Insightful Corporation, a leading provider of predictive analytics and reporting solutions, announced today that the National Cancer Institute has awarded Insightful two initial contracts worth approximately $185,807 to develop advanced bioinformatics software for analysis and evaluation of proteomic cellular signatures in cancer prevention research. These projects have been funded in whole or in part with Federal funds from the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Department of Health and Human Services under Contracts No. HHSN261200533002C and HHSN261200533003C.

The advanced bioinformatics software will utilize Insightful’s S-PLUS(R) 7 and S+ArrayAnalyzer(R) products. S-PLUS 7 is a sophisticated software platform for statistical data analysis and predictive analytics. S-PLUS 7 supports analysis of very large data sets and the rapid development of analytic applications that integrate advanced statistical methods within existing business processes. S+ArrayAnalyzer is a statistically rigorous and highly-adaptable microarray analysis software product designed to enable powerful yet simple analyses of complex microarray data. Insightful expects its combined software solution for the National Cancer Institute to provide a comprehensive toolset for assessing data quality and creating state-of-the-art graphics.
The initial contracts call for Insightful to address the challenges in preprocessing mass spectrometry data. Insightful’s proposed bioinformatics solution will include calibration, denoising, baseline detrending, intensity normalization, peak detection, alignment, feature selection and extraction.
Funding from the award will be recorded in the company’s financial statements as a reduction to research and development expense.
