Bio-Rad Announces Fall Web Seminars for Technology Advances in Spectral Analysis and Metabolomics

PHILADELPHIA, PA – October 18, 2006 – Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. (AMEX: BIO and BIOb), a multinational manufacturer and distributor of life science research and clinical diagnostics products, announced today that it will offer a series of web seminars focused on the latest technological advances in spectral analysis and the emerging area of metabolomics. The seminars begin October 24 and continue through November 23. Registration for the seminars is free and can be accessed online along with full abstracts and schedules at http://www.knowitall.com/meeting.

Web seminar topics will include:

  • The Power of Two: Characterization of Spectra via Multivariate Processing and Overlap Density Heatmaps (given in English, French, and German) – In this session, Bio-Rad will present two new technologies: Overlap Density Heatmaps (patent pending) and AnalyzeIt™ MVP (for multivariate processing). How these tools can help researchers better analyze their spectral data by identifying trends via a unique visualization approach will be demonstrated during the seminar.

  • From NMR FIDs to Biomarker Candidates: An Integrated Working Environment for NMR-Based Metabolomics Analysis – This seminar presents an integrated informatics solution covering the full range of steps from raw data processing to biomarker identification. In this session, Bio-Rad researchers will examine the validity of such an approach and how it can ultimately lead to faster and more accurate clinical/disease diagnosis.

About Spectroscopy

Spectroscopy is a commonly used method of analysis used to examine chemical compounds in the laboratory. There are several types of spectroscopy, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry (MS, Raman, infrared (IR), and Near IR (NIR).

About Metabolomics

Metabolomics blends statistical analysis with analytical chemistry techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry (MS), and chromatography. This approach is poised to become a critical component of drug discovery and development, as well as a driver for faster and more accurate disease diagnostics and management.
