Hollywood, FL – Abbott Informatics is pleased to announce the launch of the STARLIMS Public Health Solution PH12.0.
Abbott Informatics has the STARLIMS Public Health (PH) Solution product currently deployed in laboratories throughout the United States. Nevertheless, enhancements need to continuously be added in order for our product to satisfy evolving market needs. Newborn screening is one such enhancement that numerous customers have requested. Newborn screening is a public service performed in all 50 states and territories in which conditions that can affect a child’s long-term health or survival are identified. Each year, millions of babies in the United States are routinely screened.
Other enhancements are related to cybersecurity. Due to the healthcare setting, privacy concerns of patient records is critical. Continually testing and updating software to ensure that critical data is safe from vulnerabilities and attacks is paramount for our customers so that they have the confidence that our products meet stringent security standards.
The new features include the following:
INVENTORY MANAGER
The system provides the ability to add up to 200K items into Inventory Manager in a single batch mode. You can also associate an External Identifying Number to each Inventory Item ID individually or in batch.
METADATA TEMPLATE
Introduces a new metadata template specific to Newborn Screening data collection.
CLINICAL SAMPLE LOGIN
Upon submission of a Newborn Screening specimen, the system compares the NBS collection device item ID to the Inventory Item’s External Identifying Number and provides alerts to the user of collection devices that may not have originated from the testing lab.
RESULTS ENTRY
The system configures and generates a preliminary report of abnormal NBS results.
QC CHARTS (EQUIPMENT, TRENDING)
Added built in support for .NET NWA. Therefore, no installation of QA Analyst required on the server side.
SECURITY ENHANCEMENTS
Even better safety, security and privacy. Cybersecurity enhancements in STARLIMS Public Health Solution PH12.0 and STARLIMS Technology Platform v11.5 include the top 10 recommendations from OWASP (Open Web Application Security Project) and aligns with security risk management frameworks, including but not limited to, NIST 800-53, NIST CSF, and ISO 80001.
- Support for TLS 1.2 protocol.
- QL injections are now prevented, a warning message appears when this is attempted, and the event is recorded in the Server Log.
- On the Server side, folders outside the system context and not part of an admin-defined list are denied.
- Only “HttpOnly” Session cookies are used.
- The software locks on the server side if the session goes idle.
- Improved Server Side Security by adding support for privileges and pre-execution handlers.
SAFE DESIGNER
Introduces a way to define in the system what is core functionality and what is customization. By default the system is released as a core-system (non-modifiable). It allows to better separate the core product and customizations so we can extend and upgrade the systems easier and better support the core product to address any potential issues without modifying the customizations.
“At Abbott Informatics innovation and understanding our customer needs is key,” stated Mark Spencer, Divisional Vice President and General Manager at Abbott Informatics. “We are excited to announce the launch of the STARLIMS Public Health 12.0. Our goal at Abbott Informatics is help laboratories around the world deliver high quality and safe products to market faster”.
