Accelrys Announces Enterprise Lab Management Suite

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Accelrys, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACCL), a leading scientific enterprise R&D software and services company, today announced its Enterprise Lab Management (ELM) Suite, a key pillar of the Accelrys Enterprise R&D Architecture, which enables organizations to transform their scientific laboratories from a collection of point solutions to an integrated information environment. The Enterprise Lab Management Suite forms the heart of laboratory operations, addressing the management of experiments and experimental data, analysis and reporting, collaboration, documentation of intellectual property, and the tracking and management of laboratory workflows in the enterprise scientific environment.

“Accelrys’ ELM provides the core set of capabilities needed to support fundamental laboratory workflows – capabilities like designing, planning and documenting experiments, as well as step-by-step experiment execution and the creation and consumption of reagents and samples used within experiments,” said Dr. Trevor Heritage, executive vice president of software products at Accelrys. “Most importantly, scientists engaged in chemistry- and biology-based research, development and manufacturing can leverage ELM to capture and distribute knowledge about these experiments to colleagues within their own organization and across the extended enterprise to customers, suppliers and external collaborators.”

Accelrys Enterprise Lab Management supports fundamental workflows, including the capture and reuse of information required to optimize lab operations and improve lab efficiency. It is scalable across the enterprise, delivering value to individual labs, among departments and across business boundaries. ELM includes a core set of lab-enabling services and add-on components within the Accelrys’ Enterprise R&D Architecture. In combination with one or more applications within the suite, ELM provides a flexible framework that can be configured and deployed according to specific customer needs. Key applications in the suite include:

  • Symyx Notebook by Accelrys — Multidisciplinary electronic lab notebook (ELN) supports improved collaboration, lab productivity and workflow, IP protection and regulatory compliance.
  • Accelrys Laboratory Execution and Analysis (LEA) — Software enables execution of complex experimental workflows in a diverse, multi-instrument laboratory environment.
  • Accelrys Pipeline Pilotâ„¢ — Enterprise R&D platform enables capture and automation of scientific workflows, data aggregation and analytics, automated reporting and dashboard generation.

Available ELM add-on components include:

  • Notebook Adapters — Enable scientists using Symyx Notebook by Accelrys to capture, manage and share structured and unstructured information generated by software applications and lab instrumentation including various LIMS, SDMS, CDS and ECM systems.
  • Work Request and Metrology Modules — Enable scientists to route tasks, samples and results to colleagues, and update instrument calibration without leaving the ELN.

By enabling communication and collaboration across laboratories and scientific domains, Accelrys’ ELM suite improves processes and manages information associated with planning, executing, analyzing and mining experiments and experimental data.
