Accelrys Releases New Imaging Collection for SciTegic Pipeline Pilot™, the Scientific Operating Platform for Discovery and Development

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Accelrys, Inc. (NASDAQ:ACCL), a leading provider of scientific software and services, today announced the release of an Imaging Collection for SciTegic Pipeline Pilot, a platform for scientific discovery and development. The Imaging Collection brings the power of Pipeline Pilots workflow automation and visual programming capabilities to image processing tasks.

The Imaging Collection integrates image data with numerical, chemical, graphical and textual data in a unified computing framework. Sophisticated imaging tools create and automate workflows to segment images as well as to identify, label and annotate objects. Diverse types of imaging analysis are available with the Imaging Collection for a variety of applications including microscopy, high content screening, tissue analysis, high throughput screening, micro array analysis and many more.

Customers are using the Imaging Collection as part of their image management process. One midsize pharmaceutical company has created a web-interface for image retrieval providing access to their entire image repository. High content screening (HCS) is another important area as the new collection allows for custom image processing and data integration with other screening information. A customer at a major pharmaceutical company is using Pipeline Pilot to streamline their HCS workflow. They have developed an integrated system for sample annotation, quality control, data analysis and reporting that evaluates treatment effects at both the well and cell level.

“Over 70% of the experiments in pharmaceutical research and development result in an image as output. With the Imaging Collection, our customers will experience immediate benefits from our sophisticated tools for handling and analyzing image data,” said Mark J. Emkjer, president and chief executive officer of Accelrys. This product opens new market opportunities for Accelrys as it reaches new users with a wide variety of applications.
