ACD/Labs and Eigenvector Provide Enhanced Toolset Integration

Advanced Chemistry Development, Inc. (ACD/Labs), and Eigenvector Research, Inc. (EVRI), announce a collaboration to integrate ACD/Labs’ UV-IR Manager software with the Eigenvector DataSet Standard Data Object. This integration will provide the ability to read and write the DataSet Object (DSO) directly into and from ACD/UV-IR Manager, allowing full interoperability between ACD/Labs’ processing software and Eigenvector’s chemometric analysis tools available in PLS_Toolbox.

Eigenvector created the DataSet object as a tool to facilitate data set handling within MATLABâ„¢, and to enhance the exchange and translation of complete data sets between file types. When added to a MATLAB installation, DataSet creates a new object type (DSO) in MATLAB that integrates all of the separate components associated with a data set into a single variable. For typical data sets, this could include the matrix of spectra, the wavelength axis, sample labels, numbers, class and reference variables, and other key parts. The DSO may be freely downloaded from Eigenvector’s website at www.software.eigenvector.com/DataSet/ .

Through integration with the DSO, complete chemometrics data sets will be easily transferred from MATLAB to ACD/UV-IR Manager or vice-versa, which provides the industry-leading tools required to visualize, analyze, process, store, and report any optical technique that lies within 1 cm-1 to 100 000 cm-1 (100 to 10 000 000 nm). In addition, UV-IR Manager incorporates specialized application tools and expert systems that supplement analytical knowledge through a structurally-aware algorithm.

Barry Wise, Ph.D., President, Eigenvector Research, Inc., states, “While MATLAB is an extremely powerful and flexible computation environment, until now, analytical data sets containing disparate parts have produced very cluttered workspaces. The DataSet Object was created to bring order to the MATLAB workspace and allow MATLAB based tools, such as our PLS_Toolbox, to access all the parts of a data set in a reliable, consistent way. The DSO also makes a great target for data translation between programs. This allows users greater choice and flexibility in analysis tools, and ultimately adds value to analytical data.”

Antony Williams, Ph.D., V.P. Scientific Development and Marketing at ACD/Labs, adds, “Chemometrics allows for the extraction of the maximum information content from a complex data set. With the integration between Eigenvector and ACD/Labs modules in place, scientists have the opportunity to use the best-in-class software available to extract knowledge from data.”
