Alabama Health System buys Misys Laboratory Suite Software for $1.2 million

Misys Healthcare Systems, a leader in healthcare information technology, announced today the University of South Alabama (USA) Health System in Mobile, Ala., has signed a $1.2 million agreement to purchase the Misys LaboratoryTM comprehensive information management solution suite.  Under terms of the contract, USA Health System purchased Misys Laboratory and Blood Bank and Microbiology Modules, CoPathPlusTM from Misys anatomic pathology system, and expanded outreach functions.

The high-performance laboratory solutions will streamline and expedite the day-to-day operations of USA Health System’s laboratories while providing clinicians immediate access to laboratory and other critical patient specimen data in both acute care and outreach settings. USA Health System is implementing the solutions this spring at its three hospitals:  USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital, USA Knollwood Hospital and USA Medical Center.

According to Becky DeVillier, administrator of USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital, Misys offered a complete product package that met all of USA Health System’s laboratory automation needs. “Finding a primary vendor like Misys with all the right technology components was an important factor in our extensive selection process,” she said.

Misys’ application interface capabilities and multi-site reach capabilities further affirmed USA Health System’s selection of Misys Laboratory. “Misys’ proven interfacing expertise along with Misys Laboratory’s inherent ability to provide laboratory data processing across multiple hospital and clinic sites supports our strategic goal of streamlining enterprise operations as we move to a wireless platform,” said DeVillier. “With Misys Laboratory, we can capture information from the hospital system and automatically exchange laboratory generated data that includes inpatient, outpatient and outreach billing.“

USA Health System plans to supplement its diagnostic testing volume and revenue by launching an outpatient (commercial) business, serving as the testing hub for associated physician practices.   For example, USA Medical Center’s annual volume of clinical lab tests is 200,000 and is expected to increase  up to 4 percent over the next year. And, USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital expects to increase its lab testing as well.

“A primary goal is to expand our reference lab program with particular focus on USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital, where we serve a unique patient population and are realizing tremendous growth and success in recruiting top physicians,” said DeVillier.

“Misys’ 25-year outstanding track record in the laboratory business, superior technical functionality that scales and adapts to various hospital and outpatient settings and our award-winning client support affirmed by the No. 1 KLAS ranking corroborate our position as the leading clinical laboratory systems provider,” said Andrew Lawson, president of Misys Healthcare Systems’ Hospital Systems.
