Applied Biosystems’ SQL*LIMS Receives Frost and Sullivan European Market Leadership Award for Laboratory Information Management Solutions

The SQL*LIMS product from Applied Biosystems, a division of Life Technologies has been selected for the Frost and Sullivan 2008 Vertical Market Penetration Leadership Award for the European Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) market. The award was presented in recognition of innovation for the SQL*LIMS® P4 (Plug-and-Play Pharma Package), the first pre-configured and pre-validated LIMS solution for pharmaceutical quality control operations.

Software-based LIMS solutions are used by pharmaceutical companies to manage analytical testing associated with their drug development and manufacturing processes. This includes tracking samples and their results as they enter and travel the laboratory workflow. Stringent quality assurance and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures in these operations are necessary for complying with regulatory requirements, and ensuring a safe and reliable supply of pharmaceutical products. The P4 solution can eliminate up to 85% of the cost and as much as 75% of the time associated with deployment, compared to other commercial off-the-shelf LIMS products.

Applied Biosystems is the worthy recipient of this award in recognition of its consistent excellence in developing innovative LIMS products,” said Prabakar Sampath, Head Analyst in Healthcare at Frost and Sullivan. “Its outstanding ability to understand the data management needs for various industries has driven the development of a feature-rich, scalable product.”

Applied Biosystems designed the SQL*LIMS P4 as a fully functional, fully configured and validated LIMS solution for pharmaceutical manufacturing operations. SQL*LIMS P4 combines a wide range of industry best practices with a fully executed system validation to deliver the industry’s first and only pre-configured and pre-validated LIMS solution. These unique attributes make it the ideal choice for laboratories with a desire to more fully adhere to industry best practices, a limited amount of resources to dedicate to a LIMS deployment, and an immediate need for an operational LIMS. It can especially help pharmaceutical and bio-pharmaceutical companies who need to implement their first LIMS, as well as those who are upgrading their existing LIMS, to quickly implement a system that meets their needs and satisfies regulatory requirements.

Today’s leading pharmaceutical companies are all searching for ways to cut costs, harmonize common business processes, and reduce manufacturing cycle time,” said Pat Pijanowski, General Manager of Applied Biosystems’ LIMS Business unit. “This award recognizes the impact that our SQL*LIMS P4 solution is having in helping our customers focus on what they do best, which is developing and manufacturing novel therapeutics.”
