Position Summary: 
The primary responsibility will be to oversee the global Translational Sciences Timeline Management function whose area of focus is to manage detailed project timelines in order for translational science functions to achieve key project deliverables. In addition members of the team will be involved in the management of CROs and contracts, budget planning, tracking and invoicing. This position will sit on the Translational Sciences leadership team and will work closely with other areas within the company including Clinical Operations, Regulatory Affairs and Biologics Project Management.
General Duties and Responsibilities: 
• Responsible for the overall leadership and operational success of assigned functions
• Applies knowledge of the drug development process from early preclinical research through late stage clinical development in support of company goals and team deliverables.
• Supports contract and CRO management in a fast-paced matrix organization
• Applies knowledge of current and future industry trends and how they will affect the business
• Work closely with the Translational Sciences Leadership Team and Project Management in all global operational aspects related to contracts, budgeting, clinical testing operational effectiveness, and other planning initiatives.
• Provide coaching, development, and performance management to staff. Create an environment in which employees can successfully achieve professional growth. Manage a team of up to 10 staff in Gaithersburg, California and Cambridge locations and provide the needed vision and leadership to the group
Functional Responsibilities: 
The successful candidate must be able to effectively lead and improve processes to work across Translational Sciences globally in 3 major areas:
1) Oversee a team of project management professionals whose responsibilities include coordination of nonclinical and clinical timelines for the Translational Science sub-teams
2) The management of contracts, Contract Research organizations {CROs), budget planning, tracking and invoicing. Streamline and improve processes associated with annual budgeting cycles, CRO management and invoice payment for a fast-paced matrix organization.
3) Develop a team of individuals that apply project management best practices to support the Translational Science sub-team as projects transition into late stage development within the Medlmmune/AstraZeneca global organization

Requirements: 

Requirements/Qualifications: 
Education: Master's Degree with 10-12 years of experience is preferred; Bachelor's Degree with 12+ years of experience will be considered
Experience: 
• 10-12 years of related experience.
• Must have working knowledge of the biological sciences as well as strong operational and business acumen.
• Solid understanding of biotechnology and budgeting with demonstrated experience in leading complex project teams in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
• Experience with using/implementing enterprise wide tools and systems.
• Experience in building and leading teams from diverse functional areas.
• Experience in high level communication and stakeholder management.
Capabilities: 
• Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written}, to all management levels, peers, seniors and juniors.
• Effective matrix team building, facilitation, negotiation and ability to influence.
• Demonstrated ability to apply a broad and integrated perspective when planning, problem-solving and making operational decisions/setting operational strategy.
