CLSI Webinar: Verification of Commercial Microbial Identification and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Systems

Wednesday, August 17, 2016
Time: 1:00 PM (EST)

Speakers:
Janet A. Hindler, MCLS, MT(ASCP), UCLA Health System, Los Angeles, California, USA

A. Beth Prouse, MS, MT(ASCP), Peninsula Regional Medical Center

In 2015, CLSI published M52 which describes steps to take to verify commercial microbial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST) systems. This webinar will focus mainly on verification of AST systems and will briefly describe the M52 content related to verification of microbial identification systems.

Recommendations for verification of an AST system newly introduced into a laboratory will be discussed as will verification of new drugs or new panels added to an existent AST system. Examples of forms that can be used to complete the verification study will be provided and sources for reference strains or other materials needed for the verification will be discussed.

This webinar will describe a practical approach for AST verification studies to ensure reliability of the AST without being overly burdensome to laboratory personnel.

Objectives:

  • Describe a practical strategy for verification of AST systems.
  • Lists steps needed to verify performance of a new antimicrobial agent (including newly approved agents) when added to an existent AST system.
  • Prepare a verification report for AST systems that is aimed to satisfy accreditation requirements.
