BaseHealth™ Working with Illumina to Enable Genomics-Based Health Management Platform

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–BaseHealth today announced that Illumina is the company’s first Ecosystem Partner. Illumina’s products will power the patient genotyping and whole genome sequencing functions of BaseHealth’s new integrated health management platform.

“BaseHealth and Illumina share a commitment to utilizing genomics in a responsible way,” said Hossein Fakhrai-Rad, co-founder and CEO of BaseHealth. “We are very fortunate to team with the leading provider of genomic testing, and one of the industry’s clear thought leaders. This partnership strengthens our ability to provide a world-class health platform based on world-class genomic products.”

Matt Posard, Illumina’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, New and Emerging Market Opportunities, added, “We’ve been watching BaseHealth closely as its technologies and techniques have progressed over the last few years. We’re delighted that they are using our genotyping and whole genome sequencing solutions for part of their platform needs. Broad, new uses of genomic science and technology are something we are committed to supporting. Several executives from Illumina including myself have participated in BaseHealth’s pilot program, and my experience with using the Genophen platform has been very positive.”

BaseHealth’s flagship software as a service product is called GenophenTM. The Genophen platform integrates genomic and clinical data with behavioral analysis to engage patients with their physicians in a highly-collaborative way. Genophen is not available directly to consumers.

Genophen’s evidence-based health assessments help physicians intervene early and make tailored recommendations and detailed action plans that span each participant’s unique activity, diet, environmental and lifestyle needs. Every assessment includes peer-reviewed citations and is designed to align with physician best practices.

Shared dashboards guide in-person consultations and increase commitment to a healthier lifestyle. Interactive modeling tools throughout help make chosen outcomes immediately concrete, with present-tense suggestions for manageable change.

A simple user portal provides day-to-day context and motivates ongoing action. Data is reported passively, but conveyed in real-time so that physicians always have the most current information.

“We used to inquire about our bodies only when we were sick. That is no longer the case. We are increasingly accountable and motivated to manage our health. We are all living longer, and we expect to live better too,” said Dr. Mehrdad Rezaee, BaseHealth’s Chief Medical Officer. “Personalized medicine starts with a comprehensive understanding of the individual, around whom today’s most successful physicians orient care. Genophen makes this possible for the first time.”
