Boehringer Ingelheim, World Leader in Pharmaceutical Development, Implements CYA Technologies’ Products in Documentum Environment
CYA Technologies, Inc., (CYA) the leading provider of business continuity and secure collaboration software solutions, announced that Boehringer Ingelheim, a leader in human and animal pharmaceuticals has selected a combination of CYA products as a component of their business continuity solution for Documentum.
Present in more than 60 nations worldwide, Boehringer Ingelheim manufactures and markets human pharmaceuticals and products for industrial customers and animal health. The company has maintained its growth for more than 100 years in part by leveraging new technologies.
CYA Technologies defines business continuity as the continuance of business operations and assured information accessibility across the enterprise. By leveraging a combination of CYA products Boehringer Ingelheim is increasing access to critical content and applications, preventing data loss, ensuring data integrity and expediting manual tasks through intelligent automation.
To date Boehringer has implemented CYA HOTBackup and CYA Inspector (a component of the CYA Compliance & Validation Set) in support of the Natural Science Application division at sites in Germany and the United States. These products backup critical content and applications within Documentum (the leading content management solution) and ensure data integrity. Before implementing CYA HOTBackup, routine server backups interrupted Boehringer employees in Asia for two hours daily. Today, the IT Department performs transparent “hot” backups every three hours using CYA HOTBackup. By implementing CYA HOTBackup, the IT Department at Boehringer has provided the Asia team with 520 more working hours a year per team member.
The IT Department itself has also found more time to work on strategic projects, rather than focusing on “housekeeping” issues. Routine checks for data inconsistencies using CYA Inspector are run frequently, especially during mass imports of data and bulk changes. Taking a proactive position in regards to data inconsistency is important to Boehringer because it helps them maintain compliance. In addition, CYA Inspector has decreased the amount of routine data integrity checks performed by database administrators by 10%.
“We rely heavily on Documentum; it houses our critical content and applications. By incorporating CYA products into our continuity strategy for Documentum, we have experienced many benefits across our global organization including data integrity assurance, global data access, and fulfillment of 21CFR Part 11 requirements,” said Dr. Jorg Werner, System Analyst, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharma GmbH & Co. KG.
An implementation of CYA Object Manager is also planned. Boehringer anticipates a cost savings here as well, given that user name changes within Documentum occur two to three times per week. “We hope to make the re-naming of users (in Documentum) a standard process,” said Dr. Werner. Currently, only IT is able to rename users in a Documentum system, however using valuable IT resources to perform these tasks is not cost-effective. By implementing CYA Object Manager, Boehringer will enable the end user to change Documentum user names with a few simple mouse clicks.
To expedite the installation and validation of CYA products Boehringer Ingelheim relied on CYA Technologies’ Master Distributor, Phoenix Systems Integration, GmbH, a leader in developing Documentum-based global content management systems for regulated enterprises.
