Cardinal Health, Orchard® Software enter exclusive agreement for laboratory information systems offering

Dublin, Ohio, October 13, 2009 – Cardinal Health and Orchard Software today announced an agreement to offer the Orchard® HarvestTM Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Orchard® Pathology Diagnostic Information System to physician office laboratory customers.
Laboratory Information Systems allow lab data to transfer easily to electronic health records (EHRs), enabling the consolidation of patient information into an electronic format and providing a seamless flow of data among EHRs, laboratory management/billing systems, instruments and reference labs. The integration eliminates manual data entry, reduces errors and ensures accurate invoicing for completed lab tests.
‘In light of the new federal incentives related to EHRs, we expect a greater number of our customers to begin using new technologies that can streamline the way they do business,’ said Kenny Wilson, senior vice president and general manager of Cardinal Health’s Ambulatory Care business. ‘Providing our customers with access to innovative technologies like Orchard Softwares Laboratory Information Systems is an important part of Cardinal Healths broader commitment to help health care providers improve back office efficiency, so they can focus on patient care.’

Also, for physician groups doing anatomic pathology testing in-house, with Orchard Pathology, Cardinal Health will be able to offer a comprehensive pathology solution that simplifies the complexity of clinical, molecular and pathology testing and reporting.
Along with the direct sales force at Orchard Software, Cardinal Health will be the exclusive health services company to offer the Orchard Harvest LIS and Orchard Pathology systems to physician office laboratories, making it more widely available to laboratory clinicians throughout the U.S. Cardinal Health is one of the largest suppliers to ambulatory care sites nationwide.
Our partnership with Cardinal Health allows Orchard Software to extend our reach to laboratorians so they can be more fully aware of how an Orchard lab system can streamline workflow and benefit their lab operations and patients, said Curt Johnson, vice president of sales and marketing of Orchard Software.
