Chemtech has confirmed its presence at the Rio Oil & Gas 2006

Chemtech will be present at the next edition of the Rio Oil & Gas Expo and Conference, the main oil & gas event in Latin America, to take place from September 11 to 14, in Rio de Janeiro.  The 2006 edition of the event will deal with the Brazilian self-sufficiency in oil, a new era of opportunities and challenges.

Chemtech, which took part in the last five editions of the Rio Oil & Gas, will be in Pavilion 4 with new stories about its participation in the event.  The model of the FPSO BR P-57 project will be exhibited, and Chemtech engineering and IT solutions for the market, as well as the delivery of the 1st National CFD Chemtech/PHOENICS Challenge and the 1st Chemtech/ControlSoft Process Control Challenge will be presented. You can’t miss it!

FPSO BR P-57 – there will be a model representing the FPSO BR P-57, one of the largest oil floating production, storage and off-loading units (FPSO) in the world.

Chemtech led a consortium of three companies (Chemtech/Aker Kvaerner/Kromav) which worked in a task-force system to carry out the platform project along with Petrobras. It was a FEED project involving all technical disciplines (process, instrumentation, equipment/mechanics, turbo-machines, electricity, HVAC, telecommunications, safety, layout, structures – deck modules, structures – hull, naval, marine systems).  Chemtech also played an active role in coordination (quality, planning & control) across the entire project.

Challenges – There will also be the 1st National CFD Chemtech/PHOENICS Challenge – a competition of intelligence and technology involving students from 12 universities throughout Brazil – and the 1st Chemtech/ControlSoft Process Control Challenge – a competition with students from universities located in Rio de Janeiro.

In both competitions the participants will be presented with real problems of the industry which they will be asked to solve.  To do this, they will use computational fluid-dynamic simulation software PHOENICS and the advanced control and loop-tuning software Intune and Mantra.  The winners of these competitions will receive prizes and internship opportunities, besides the knowledge and experience for the work market.

Solutions – Chemtech professionals will also be available to show visitors our successful cases and all our solutions, particularly basic project, fluid-dynamic simulation, advanced control, FEED, automation system, special environmental monitoring and control systems, and platform and riser positioning systems.

Apart from that, there are also the solutions offered along with partner companies, such as Berwanger, Fantoft, UReason, Cham, and Pavilion.

Projects – Besides the exposition, we will be well represented at the conference.  Project leader Leonardo Simão will be presenting a project on the optimization of refining scheduling with the use of genetic algorithms.  Another engineer, Maria da Graça Contarine, will be presenting the article “Analysis of the spurious action of fire fighting systems using CO2 in offshore platforms”.

According to the organizers of the event, from the very first edition in 1992 the fair and the conference have collaborated in the consolidation of Rio de Janeiro as the “oil capital”, since the state concentrates 80% of the entire oil production in the country, and 50% of the gas production.  During the Rio Oil & Gas national and foreign companies present their products and services and discuss major issues regarding technological innovations.
