CLSI Announces Symposium at the CLSI Leadership Conference
Wayne, Pennsylvania, USA-January 31, 2012-The Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) is hosting a free symposium called Reducing Risk in Health Care: Present and Future Trends in the Laboratory, on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Sheraton National Hotel in Arlington, Virginia, USA, during the annual CLSI Leadership Conference.
Participants will learn how to improve patient care through the implementation of risk management. The new CLSI document, Laboratory Quality Control Based on Risk Management; Approved Guideline (EP23-A), will be featured, and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will discuss the proper use of new quality control (QC) tools based on this guideline. In addition, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will highlight laboratory-developed tests as they relate to this topic.
Speakers at the symposium include Carolyn M. Clancy, MD, Director, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, US Department of Health and Human Services; Alberto Gutierrez, PhD, Director, Office of In Vitro Diagnostic Device Evaluation and Safety at the FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health; and Judith A. Yost, MA, MT(ASCP), Director, Division Laboratory Services, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The speakers will discuss how to tailor a QC plan that addresses risk management by assessing the measuring system, laboratory setting, and clinical application of a test. They will also cover details of the new Quality Graduate Certificate Program, which was recently implemented in Vietnam. The symposium will teach participants about the latest testing methods, while offering open panel discussions. Participants will also receive PACE® or ACCENT® continuing education credits.
The symposium is intended for clinical and laboratory professionals at all levels and related health care professionals, manufacturers and representatives from regulatory and accrediting organizations, and educators and students in clinical laboratory sciences.
