The program, which runs through the end of September 2012, facilitates growing academic interest in improving quality of research, IP protection and collaboration through the use ELNs. The scalability, rapid deployment and affordable price point of the Contur ELN is making robust ELN deployments a reality for academia.

“The Contur ELN program is the first of its kind in academia,” said Thomas Rozlucki, general manager of Contur Software (a subsidiary of Accelrys). “With university interest and investment in ELN technology trending upwards, we are offering UK educational institutions an opportunity to assess an instantly deployable, Cloud and Web-based notebook that captures and protects IP in a secure, collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. Contur ELN’s scalability and speed of deployment make it a valuable productivity tool for the academic community.”

Supported by the ‘Dial-a-Molecule‘ Grand Challenge Network funded by the UK government’s Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Contur ELN program is the largest multi-institutional academic ELN trial ever undertaken. It is also the  first academic ELN trial spanning chemistry, biology and engineering and the only academic trial that enables cross-functional teams to collaborate effectively using a scalable Cloud- and Web-based ELN featuring Accelrys’ rich, industry-leading chemistry capabilities.

“The Dial-a-Molecule roadmap identified the collection of high quality reaction data as a key enabler, and adoption of ELNs in academia is a crucial step,” said Richard Whitby, professor of organic chemistry at the University of Southampton and principle investigator on the network. “Accelrys’ UK Contur ELN program is an important opportunity for academia to evaluate the use of an easy-to-use and deploy ELN supporting collaborative Cloud-based information sharing.”
