CTCA Hospital Leverages Sunquest LIS and POC Collection Management Solution
Feb 23, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) — Sunquest Information Systems, Inc., a provider of laboratory and diagnostic information systems, announced that the new Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) hospital in Goodyear, Ariz., has implemented the Sunquest Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Sunquest Collection Manager (CLM) solutions as part of its opening in December.
The company said that the best-of-suite solutions from Sunquest support the CTCA commitment to improving patient care, including patient safety and overall technology for paperless workflow. Collection Manager is an LIS-integrated Point-of-Care (POC) positive patient identification solution that allows care providers to save time and reduce errors by automating their processes for specimen collection, specimen labeling, and data entry. CTCA expects to implement Collection Manager at its other hospitals in Philadelphia, suburban Chicago, and Tulsa in the first half of 2009.
“The successful implementation of Sunquest’s LIS and Collection Manager at CTCA at Western Regional Medical Center helps us open our doors in a fully operational state and provide the highest levels of patient care and safety,” said Chad Eckes, chief information officer of Cancer Treatment Centers of America. “Our IT team worked with Sunquest’s professional services group to effectively and efficiently deploy the Collection Manager in a short timeframe. We intend to follow the same rollout plans at our other facilities to help deliver a fully integrated, patient-centered treatment experience that combines traditional, state-of-the-art medical treatments with scientifically supported complementary therapies.”
“Our nursing staff, trained in a short amount of time to use Collection Manager, immediately recognized the technology’s value to patients, including workflow efficiency and patient safety,” said Marilyn Ward, laboratory director at CTCA at Western Regional Medical Center. “Using the handheld devices and bar code technology to match patient ID bracelets with specimens labeled at the bedside creates a feeling of security and care for patients and their families.”
“We are honored to partner with CTCA in bringing its care vision to reality,” said Roger Neubauer, vice president of implementation and professional services for Sunquest Information Systems, Inc. “The CTCA model of patient-centric healthcare is one that reflects Sunquest’s core values. We look forward to continuing our partnership with CTCA in delivering solutions that play a key role in meeting safety goals and care standards.”
