Database applications gain more performance, safety, and integrity

More than 20 Chemtech professionals participated in the last days of the “Data Base and Advanced SQL” course, by Joe Celko, one of the best reputed SQL experts in the world.

“Joe really has tremendous knowledge and likes teaching.  I have been working with SQL for sometime and during the course I had the opportunity to see some techniques I had never seen before.  First, Joe gave an overview on SQL, and then he showed some tricks and algorithms that can be solved during consultation, such as problems where tree structures and hierarchy need to be implemented.  With the algorithm the access to this information is extremely quick and scalable”, declared Chemtech project leader Alex Salgado.

The course took place at the Chemtech offices in Rio de Janeiro and in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Timeline techniques that use calendars, RANK and Windowing functions – such as ROWNUM(), RANK(), DENSE_RANK() and NTILE() – that solve problems involving summarization were shown.

The constant specialization and upgrading in the qualification of Chemtech professionals is a certainty that its clients can always count on the best services and solutions by a highly qualified team. One of the techniques learned at the course is already being implemented at a client’s site and will help reduce the 15-minute consultation processing to less than one minute.

The course objective was not limited to SQL; it also taught how to solve problems without using C#, Java, VB and other languages, but with the database and the help of the SQL.  This enables gains in performance, safety, and integrity.  Chemtech professionals have already ensured the achievement of this goal.  According to Joe Celko, our professionals had a very good performance in the course: “Chemtech students were sharper than the students that usually attend my courses”, he said.
