DataWorks Announces Continuing Support for ActiveFactory Versions 8.5 and Earlier

DataWorks Systems, the original developers of the Wonderware(R) ActiveFactory(TM) set of client applications for accessing and processing manufacturing data, today announced the company will provide continuing customer support for all levels of ActiveFactory in versions 8.5 and earlier.

“Wonderware has licensed this product from DataWorks Systems since we created it in the 1990s and has sold it through their own distribution channel,” explained John Nichols, DataWorks Systems’ chief operating officer. “They also have provided end user support for the older product versions.

“We are grateful for the mutually rewarding relationship we’ve had with Wonderware over nearly a decade, but our license agreement with them ends in July and they will then offer new versions of ActiveFactory, which only they will support,” Nichols said. “It’s important to note that these new versions are based on an entirely different code base than the previous versions developed by DataWorks — so to ensure continued support for existing ActiveFactory customers, DataWorks will also offer technical support for all previous versions.

“In addition, we will begin shipping our new Incuity(TM) HDA product in July, which in its smallest version is a replacement for the 8.5 and earlier editions of ActiveFactory,” Nichols added. “It provides 100 percent backward compatibility with those previous generations and also gives existing end users a set of new tools that provides even better capabilities for accessing, viewing, trending and reporting on manufacturing data.”

The Incuity HDA (which stands for Historical Data Access) product offers several new features for ActiveFactory users, including:

— Microsoft .NET-based client tools for advanced trending, including batches, multiple Y axes and X-Y plotting

— Its own Incuity portal, eliminating the need for additional portal products

— A more powerful Microsoft Excel workbook add-in report generator and publisher

— Connectivity to Wonderware’s existing IndustrialSQL Server(TM) historian plus the GE iHistorian, OSIsoft’s PI database, RS Bizwire Historian and any other OPC HDA-compatible historian

— Increased application security using Microsoft Web Services

“Incuity HDA will provide support for the same 13 language versions of ActiveFactory and it will provide a painless upgrade path from the earlier versions,” Nichols noted. “In addition, upgrading to the Incuity HDA product also provides a step up to the new Incuity EMI product for enterprise manufacturing intelligence.”
