ECI acquires CliniSys, a leading healthcare software provider, for £61m

ECI Partners (“ECI”), the UK mid-market buyout specialist, has acquired CliniSys for £61m plus an earn out of up to £2m from its founding shareholders, some of whom are re-investing in the business.  Headquartered in Surrey and with operations in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Spain and Germany, CliniSys is a leading pan-European supplier of Laboratory Information Management Systems (“LIMS”) to the healthcare market.  ECI is backing the current Group CEO, Fiona Pearson, and has introduced Ken Briddon, formerly CEO of JBA plc, as chairman.

The healthcare IT and software market which CliniSys serves is one of the fastest growing areas of IT spend and the Company intends to capitalise on this to consolidate its position as a leading pan-European LIMS provider.  The fast and accurate delivery of pathology results is at the heart of many healthcare improvement programmes which demand solutions that meet both the evolving needs of the laboratory scientist and the diagnosing clinician’s need for integrated information at the point of care.  CliniSys’ products are functionally rich and are deployed across the full spectrum of laboratory configurations – from the small private laboratory through to the high-volume, high-throughput needs of the multi-site pathology clinical network – delivering improved quality and productivity within the clinical laboratory.
Established more than 20 years ago, CliniSys has an installed base of more than 400 sites throughout Europe and worldwide supporting in excess of 100,000 healthcare professionals.  The Company employs more than 200 healthcare IT professionals and, by working in close collaboration with advisors holding key clinical positions across the European healthcare community, Clinisys stays at the forefront of clinical innovation.
This acquisition represents another successful transaction by ECI in the IT and support services sectors, following the sale of Anix earlier this month, the acquisitions of Aerial Facilities in January 2007 and M2 Digital in September 2006, and the £100 million sale of ClarityBlue in January 2006.
