Eclipsys Sunrise Surgical Manager Selected by National Institutes of Health; World-Leading Medical Research Center Builds on Successful Implementation of Sunrise Clinical Manager

Eclipsys Corporation(R), The Outcomes Company(R), announced that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has selected Sunrise(TM) Surgical Manager to provide advanced clinical support for clinicians as they perform mission-critical surgical processes. This additional purchase follows the successful implementation and activation in August of Eclipsys’ Sunrise Clinical Manager’s order entry, clinical documentation and customized pharmacy dispensing configuration capabilities at NIH’s Clinical Center.

The NIH Clinical Center is unique in that every patient admitted is part of a clinical study that translates scientific discoveries in the laboratory into new and better medical treatments and therapies. The powerful clinical data repository that underlies Sunrise Clinical Manager will help NIH to achieve its clinical research goals, which include acquiring new knowledge to help prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat disease and disability, from the rarest genetic disorder to the common cold.

As an extension of Sunrise Clinical Manager, Sunrise Surgical Manager integrates the surgery department with the healthcare organization and provides advanced clinical decision support for clinicians throughout the critical surgical processes. This solution helps prevent delays in surgical procedures and supports better outcomes. Real-time access to the patient record and automated scheduling tools streamline scheduling. Productivity-enhancing features include administrative support, perioperative screening, case documentation for nursing and anesthesia, physiological monitor connectivity, perioperative workflow management, clinical data repository access, nursing support and Knowledge-Based Orders.

“Sunrise Surgical Manager provides nurses, anesthesiologists and physicians with powerful documentation tools to help them easily capture the patient’s status at every stage of the procedure and helps users reach their research goals,” said Rick Mansour, MD, chief medical officer, Eclipsys. “With Eclipsys, reduced operating room costs, enhanced productivity and improved patient safety can be expected.”
