GenoLogics Expands Its LIMS Platform With St. George’s, University Of London

VICTORIA, BC Canada/EWORLDWIRE/July 8, 2008 — GenoLogics, the leading developer of translational research informatics solutions, today announced that St. George’s Medical Biomics Centre’s decision to expand its relationship with GenoLogics by adding the Geneus genomics data management system to its existing Proteus proteomics system.

“We have recently extended our genomics analysis capability with the addition of a state of the art Illumina BeadArray system and with the planned increase in capacity and complexity we needed a data management system to help deliver the analysis results quickly to our users and collaborators. With its tight integration with the Illumina BeadStudio software and the flexibility to handle workflows to support different array types and new disciplines such as NextGen sequencing when needed, Geneus was a natural choice for our facility”, said Dr. Gary Coulton, Director of Biomics at St. George’s University of London (SGUL).

“We will use Geneus and Proteus together in a range of studies to support both internal and externally based research groups and the combination of the two applications will allow us to explore translational medicine applications with a new perspective. Initially we plan to run a series of Biomarker discovery projects using tissue microarrays, MALDI-TOF-TOF and MALDI-Imaging mass spectrometry to identify new surrogate markers for drug efficacy and adverse reactions. Without the capabilities of the Geneus and Proteus data base and workflow engine we would not be able to consider complex projects of this type, without significant additional manpower resources,” continued Dr Coulton.

Geneus is a robust genomics informatics system that simplifies end-to-end sample and data management by integrating with instruments from leading genomics technology providers. Geneus increases the productivity of genomic research laboratories challenged with managing large amounts of data. The solution is preconfigured to address genomic workflows, including NextGen sequencing, and delivers advanced querying and reporting capabilities.

Geneus is based on the same configurable and flexible platform as Proteus, GenoLogics’ proteomic data management system. The platform is designed to adapt to evolving technologies and changes in lab operations, while easily allowing labs to create their own workflows and processes without the need to write code. It also enables the retrieval of results from bioinformatics pipelines, as well as uses a common adaptive reporting framework to generate meaningful results for cross-science analysis.

“The primary reason we added Geneus to our product suite is because we saw a need in the marketplace for science-purposed data management systems housed on a common platform,” explained Michael Ball, CEO of GenoLogics. “We are not only excited to see organizations adopting our multiple-science informatics solution, but also to have clients such as St. George’s expanding their relationship with us based on the value they received from using Proteus.”

Geneus and Proteus are part of GenoLogics’ Solutions for Research Informatics, which enables data from different science workflows and across multiple labs to be tracked, captured and stored in one secure, central lab and data management system. With GenoLogics’ highly configurable common platform for multiple science domains, research organizations are able to efficiently conduct cross-science analysis and systems biology.

About Biomics

The Medical Biomics centre was the world’s first purpose built facility combining genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics on a clinical site. This facility provides the opportunity to carry out integrated analysis of the molecular basis of complex disease processes in a custom built facility. The Centre plays a major role in clinical and biomedical research. The facilities available can assist in the development of novel diagnostics, in the identification of new therapeutic targets, and in increasing our understanding of the pathophysiology of disease.
