Georgia Life Sciences Summit Showcases Biotech Innovation

ATLANTA–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The 8th Annual Georgia Life Sciences Summit, September 24, at the Georgia World Congress Center, will feature more than 70 speakers discussing trends and issues and showcasing the most advanced research and product developments in biomedicine, medical devices, agriculture and bioenergy.

Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, Senator Bob Dole, Special Counsel with Alston & Bird, and Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin lead a stellar line-up of plenary speakers. The Summit will also feature Biotechnology Industry Organization President and CEO James Greenwood; US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Chief Science Officer Tanja Popovic; Solvay Pharmaceuticals President and CEO Stephen Hill; Morehouse School of Medicine President Emeritus Louis Sullivan; University of Georgia President Michael F. Adams; Emory University President James W. Wagner; and Georgia Research Alliance President and CEO C. Michael Cassidy.

In addition, breakout sessions will feature business experts, scientists and public policy officials sharing insights on topics ranging from global healthcare to bioenergy. A plenary session, following lunch, will highlight Center for Behavioral Neuroscience distinguished researchers explorations into one of sciences last and most daunting frontiers the brain. The CBN is a National Science Foundation funded consortium of Georgias research universities.

Georgia Bios Life Sciences Summit, whose theme is Molecules, Materials and Minds: Building Georgias Innovation Economy, has become the Southeasts premier life sciences conference and one of the largest state biotechnology showcases in the nation. The 2008 Summit also will kick-off the countdown to the 2009 Biotechnology Industry Organizations International Convention, May 18-21, 2009, in Atlanta.
