IDBS and Genentech Present State-of-the-Art Next Generation Electronic Lab Notebooks at the 8th Annual ELN and Advanced Lab Solutions Conference

Guildford, UK and Cambridge, MA, September 24, 2009 – IDBS, the leading worldwide provider of research data management and analytics solutions to R&D organizations, today announced that IDBS customer Dr. Martin Vanderlaan, Director, Analytical Operations at Genentech, will present “Implementing an Electronic Lab Notebook for a Large Bioprocess Organisation,” at IQPC’s ELN and Advanced Lab Solutions Conference in Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Paul Denny-Gouldson, Product Manager at IDBS, will also present a session on “Data Management as the Foundation of ELNs as a Knowledge Base”.

What

Pharma IQ’s ELNs conference is Europe’s leading event for professionals working within laboratory data management in the Pharmaceutical and Biotech Industry. It consistently delivers a high volume of the most critical, time-specific practical case studies and strategic briefings.

Dr. Vanderlaan’s case study will highlight the pilot implementation of an ELN solution, covering the IT roadmap for a completely electronic records environment; organizational change management; the best strategy and planning for ELN selection and implementation; and key lessons learned.

Dr. Denny-Gouldson’s session will demonstrate how the right data management technology can support cross-study, cross-project, and cross-domain search and reporting. Examples of workflows gathered from across the industry will be presented including the “One Click IND” and “Automated Compound Progression” and how these require both data management and data federation to be successful.

Who

Dr. Vanderlaan has been with Genentech for 14 years, most recently as the Director of Analytical Operations. Previously he was Director of Immunochemistry, PerseptiveBiosystemsHead, Hybidoma Group, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He is a technical expert in Analysis of BioPharmaceuticals using chromatography, immunoassays, and potency assays and has authored more than 80 publications and patents. Dr Vanderlaan holds a PhD. From New York University Medical School and an MBA from the University of San Francisco.

Dr. Denny-Gouldsonhas almost 15 years’ experience in pharmacology, pharmaceutical drug development and ELN software development. He joined IDBS in 2005 when the company he founded, Deffinity Solutions was purchased by IDBS. Prior to this, he was Senior Scientist at Sanofi-Synthelabo (now Sanofi-Aventis). Dr. Denny-Gouldson obtained his PhD. in Computational Biology from Essex University in1996 and has authored over 20 scientific papers and book chapters.
