IDBS Provides First International ELN for Academia

The University of Nottingham Extends E-WorkBook Suite across Global Network of Campuses

Guildford, UK, and Burlington, Mass., September 20, 2011 – IDBS, a global provider of innovative enterprise data management, analytics and modeling solutions, today announced that the University of Nottingham has extended its use of E-WorkBook Suite to provide the first global academia ELN deployment. Initially provided in the School of Pharmacy, E-WorkBook has now been expanded to all areas of research across the University’s UK, China and Malaysia campuses. By applying E-WorkBook consistently across its worldwide research, the university will have one of the most sophisticated intellectual property (IP) management and research governance systems in the world.

The University of Nottingham, a leading research-intensive university, will use E-WorkBook across global sites to enhance its world-class research and build on its innovative and collaborative excellence. IDBS’ E-WorkBook will capture, analyze and manage the university’s research in a fully searchable and secure environment that allows researchers to share valuable ideas and information within and across academic domains. With E-WorkBook, IP generated by faculty and students will be fully protected, and researchers can review original data and share information knowing that E-WorkBook adheres to research governance.

According to the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), 60% of the University of Nottingham’s research is defined as “world leading” or “internationally excellent” and it is ranked in the top 1% of universities worldwide. With E-WorkBook the university will more consistently and effectively preserve and manage research data, which will enhance the quality and quantity of its research bids. The University of Nottingham can also demonstrate its capabilities to support contract research, which assures confidence of data integrity in subsequent commercialization.

“After the successful use of E-WorkBook in the School of Pharmacy, we were fully confident that the university would benefit from having data centrally and securely managed across all sites,” said Grant Howard, Project Manager at the University of Nottingham. “IDBS will help the university adhere to our research governance guidelines, protect our IP and significantly build on our excellent reputation, allowing us to improve both the quality of our research and number of projects we are able to successfully win and execute on.”

“Academia continues to be a strong focus for IDBS and we fully recognize the demands that universities face,” said Neil Kipling, founder and CEO of IDBS. “The university is taking a forward looking approach and we are delighted to support its internationally renowned research both in the UK and through our IDBS groups across Asia. By working with IDBS and E-WorkBook, the university will have a global world-class IP management and research governance platform which underpins its reputation for the highest levels of academic achievement.”
