IDM’s Surround System 4.3 Implemented by the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross (ARC) has implemented IDM’s Surround 4.3 System at their National Testing Laboratories (NTLs) in Philadelphia and Detroit to replace the current Data Management System (DMS) presently in use within their blood services program. The American Red Cross previously utilized an earlier version of Surround to integrate donor serology and nucleic acid testing (NAT) results into their National Biomedical Computer System (NBCS). The National Testing Laboratories in Charlotte, St. Louis, and Portland are all scheduled to implement Surround 4.3 by the end of year.
“We are excited about the implementation of Surround at our testing laboratories,” said Christine Leaman, Vice President of Laboratory Testing for the American Red Cross. “We have successfully implemented Surround in two of our labs and anticipate successful implementation in our remaining labs by the end of 2005.”
Surround is an open laboratory system that provides sample management, instrument interface, decision making and a powerful reporting module that will benefit both centralized and free standing laboratories in the blood and plasma sectors.
“IDM is thrilled that the American Red Cross has fully implemented Surround at two of their NTLs and retired the DMS which was in use for over 25 successful years. We look forward to the implementation of Surround at the remaining NTL’s. We are proud to be a part of their continued commitment to the safety of their blood supply and the efficiency of their operations,” states Susan McBride, Vice President, Business Development of IDM.
