INCOGEN VIBE Licensed by U.S. Naval Research Laboratory; Sun Announces Availability of INCOGEN VIBE through the Sun Customer Ready Systems Program

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.–March 22, 2004–The U. S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) purchased the right to use INCOGEN VIBE data pipelining software for use in its ongoing life science research programs.

NRL is the corporate research laboratory for the Navy and Marine Corps and conducts a broad program of scientific research, technology and advanced development. NRL has served the Navy and the nation for 80 years. There is a wide array of research programs under way at the NRL encompassing a broadly-based multidisciplinary program of scientific research and advanced technological development directed toward maritime applications of new and improved materials, techniques, equipment, systems, and ocean, atmospheric, and space sciences and related technologies.

“Having NRL as a VIBE user is another example of the increasing recognition the value of INCOGEN and our offerings in the field of life science research,” said Maciek Sasinowski, PhD, founder and CEO of INCOGEN. The company, founded by Dr. Sasinowski in 1998, offers four software products for researchers in life science informatics, as well as an extensive list of Professional Services.

VIBE now available through the Sun Customer Ready Systems Program

Earlier this year, Sun Microsystems announced the availability of VIBE from the Sun Customer Ready Systems (CRS) program as part of its new Starter Cluster, a ready-to-deploy, affordable computing option for life sciences researchers. Sun CRS integrates Sun and complementary third-party hardware and software products into pre-tested solutions based on customer specifications.

VIBE can be added to the Starter Cluster configuration and is available from Sun CRS at a lower price and greater level of support than customers could get if they bought the hardware and software separately.

Although customers can integrate products like VIBE on their own, customizing through Sun CRS ensures proper system tuning and faster implementation. “By choosing the turnkey option, CRS customers get the benefit of Sun’s hardware expertise and INCOGEN’s software expertise simultaneously,” says Don Van Dyke, INCOGEN commercialization consultant. “That translates into speed because it doesn’t require a custom implementation.”

In addition to faster deployment, customers purchasing through Sun CRS build relationships with local resellers. Van Dyke concludes: “Despite the global nature of today’s life sciences industry, from a customer standpoint resellers and hardware partners still tend to be local. For the customer, that’s important because it means local service, local support, and local inventory.”
