Info-X Announces Agreement With Epic

Info-X Inc., a leading provider of Web-based coding compliance tools and medical necessity data dictionaries for hospitals and physician groups, announced an agreement with Epic Systems Corporation, one of the nation’s largest healthcare information system vendors. This agreement enables Epic’s customers to leverage Info-X’s MedicalNecessity Dictionaries–comprehensive tables of thousands of CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, as well as supporting ICD-9 diagnostic codes–from within the company’s suite of applications by using content embedded in its internal data structures.

MedicalNecessity Dictionaries can be utilized in Epic at one or more key points in the enterprise workflow–including appointment scheduling, order entry, check-in, charge entry, charge review and claims processing–to detect coding and compliance issues. Identifying and correcting these issues prior to rendering care ensures compliance and protects revenue by enabling providers to immediately notify patients of their financial responsibility. Post-service validation of Medicare claims leads to the reduction of payment rejections and denials, and, ultimately, improved reimbursement for healthcare organizations.

Epic will also offer its users access to Info-X’s EditEngine technology and Web-based coding compliance application, MedicalNecessity(TM).com. EditEngine broadens the scope of coding compliance beyond Medical Necessity by including CCI, OCE, ICD9, CPT-4 and Modifier edit content, as well as providing the ability to add custom edits. MedicalNecessity(TM).com can be used by healthcare organizations as a supplemental tool for ensuring enterprise-wide Medicare compliance. This Web-based application can be deployed to users across an IDN for use in validating Medicare coverage prior to rendering services, as a coding research and reference tool, and for appeal and denial processing in post-service environments.

Info-X currently maintains coding and compliance content covering all 50 states and encompassing more than 96 million data elements. In order to ensure the highest data quality, Info-X has developed a proprietary compilation software tool, which enables the company to store, search, reference and analyze data. Using this tool also provides Info-X with additional flexibility, allowing the merging of national and local policies into a single data dictionary. Updated files are sent to partners every month–more frequently if major interim changes take effect–and the company maintains a precise history of every policy change, including reasons, citations and dates.

“This agreement is a very exciting step in our evolution as it allows us to deliver a comprehensive and innovative combination of coding compliance solutions directly to the Epic client base,” said Jerry Baker, president and COO of Info-X. “Through a seamless integration with Epic’s host applications and by providing our own Web-based tools, we offer Epic users access to our quality coding compliance content as part of their existing workflows.”
