Information Mapping, Inc. Launches Course to Help Medical Laboratories Meet New ISO Standards

Information Mapping, Inc. (IMI), the leading provider of Information Life Cycle Solutions, today announced its newest offering, Creating Effective Laboratory Documents. The two-day, instructor-led, interactive course teaches principles for developing effective policy, process, and procedure documents used in laboratory and blood bank operations and management. The course also provides information on documenting a laboratory’s quality management system (QMS) and related documents, which are now required by new ISO standards.

IMI developed the course, along with nationally known health system consultant and author Lucia Berte, to help organizations address productivity and performance problems caused by poorly written documents. Berte says, “This course is especially important now that ISO 15189, a new international standard for medical laboratories, has been introduced. ISO 15189 requires that a medical laboratory has a documented quality manual that describes the laboratory’s QMS and documented processes and procedures. Information Mapping(R) is clearly the best approach for writing quality documents.” Berte is also a certified Information Mapping instructor.

Berte notes that “in the United States alone there are between 6,000 and 7,000 medical laboratories subject to regulations and accreditation standards, in addition to a few thousand blood centers and hospital blood banks. There are several thousand more laboratories in Canada also subject to ISO 15189 standards. Therefore, the need for this course is very great.”

The fast-paced Creating Effective Laboratory Documents helps managers, quality coordinators, and procedure writers in medical laboratories and blood banks meet accreditation requirements and ISO 15189 standards for their documents, streamline document development, promote the development of training and competence assessment programs, and reduce errors. The small class size allows participants to apply and practice new skills through small group exercises and receive the attention they need from the instructor.

Participants will receive the following suite of tools and materials:

— Information Mapping’s Formatting Solutions(R) Pro software, which allows easy and quick formatting in Microsoft(R) Word for Windows.

— A complete Participant’s Guide with in-depth review of all principles and concepts covered in the course.

— A handy Quick Reference Card for easy access to key information.

IMI is recognized internationally for its expertise in helping businesses optimize performance through improved communication effectiveness.
