Infotrieve to Pioneer Integration of STM Content and Product Procurement Through Acquisition of LabVelocity

Infotrieve, Inc., the leader in on-demand delivery of scientific, technical, and medical (STM) information and integrated information management solutions, has purchased life sciences information management software and technology services provider LabVelocity. Infotrieve will leverage this acquisition to make a measurable impact on the speed of corporate research and development activities, pioneering the first large-scale workflow integration of scientific and technical literature with laboratory products used by life scientists and engineers during the research and development process.

LabVelocity has supported life scientists and life science companies with timely, on-demand access to technical information and laboratory research products since its inception in 1999, made available through partnerships with laboratory product suppliers. Infotrieve will integrate both its existing and future solutions with those from LabVelocity, beginning with enabling links to research products in the “Materials and Methods” section of electronic journal articles. Researchers will be able to transfer product requests to their purchasing organizations or directly into their internal procurement systems.

“Infotrieve’s acquisition of LabVelocity will have a profound impact on commercial research and development practices, removing multiple steps from standard processes and providing a malleable infrastructure for controlling purchasing costs,” said Infotrieve CEO and President, Wes Crews. “LabVelocity products will serve as another valuable component within Infotrieve’s integrated solution and positions us to deliver even greater financial and operational benefits to our customers and strategic partners.”

LabVelocity’s suite of solutions includes: ResearchLink Enterprise, a web-based service to increase lab productivity, simplify sourcing processes, and control costs at research institutions and companies; ProductManager, an interactive product catalog management and syndication tool; ProductListing, a product listing service for product suppliers; WebManager, a website development solution with integrated online and print product catalog production capabilities and smart search capabilities; and Jellyfish, an innovative bioinformatics software tool that provides scientists with robust DNA and protein sequence analysis capabilities.

“This exciting development fits precisely with LabVelocity’s mission by providing the infrastructure to support a streamlined flow of product data and related information between suppliers of scientific and technical research products, and the companies and professionals that use them,” added LabVelocity Co-Founder and President, Erik Lium, Ph.D., who has joined Infotrieve along with other key LabVelocity executives.
